I'm a fairly new owner of a 1989 Catalina 27 and had some questions about the gooseneck. Please see attached photos. Does this look right? It seems to me that there should be something keeping the boom centered where it attaches to the gooseneck. The boom is sitting at an angle and its putting a lot of pressure on the split cotter ring. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When you hoist the sail, does the top of the sail (the head) go all the way to the top of the mast?
Then when the sail is at the top, do you pull the Cunningham (that little rope dangling in the photo #1) down pulling the boom and gooseneck down and cleating the Cunningham off on the mast cleat below it?
This stretch’s the luff and brings the boom down to level.
Picture of the sail looking up the mast would help.
