Yes, it's a flexible fuel bladder, that fits through the new hatch in the water ballast tank. There is no anchoring, it's lays securely and doesn't go anywhere. It's custom made specifically for the 26X. www.ballastplus.com.

website doesn't show much but the pdf http://www.ballastplus.com/picts/basic-ballast-system.pdf can you tell us what it costs? did you do 1 or 2 40 gal tanks? how much is usable fuel? (can you use 39 gal, can you even fill it up full) its an interesting concept. especially for a pure powerboat type of trawler, (or great loop candidate). *I have sent an email asking for more info... my google search, and the searches on other Macgregor boards has zero hits....

I've seen them on a friends OB bracket. it was dry when we opened it.

I still have the same questions on how its secured.
if the WB is empty, but the spare tank is full, what keeps it from moving around?

think of a ziplock back full of water, laying on your car's dashboard... then turning.

I looked at the forward tanks in my mac26x. Looks like my Nauta 50 gallon bladder (27x63) would be a very tight fit and would not shift around, rather the fuel just roll around inside the bladder. I tempted to do this..........

I really want to like this idea...

but how do you fill it again? its a gravity fill from the back of boat?

with 24 under the seats and say 40 in the bow. what did we say 5 gal / hr WOT?

so maybe 15 hrs cruise at 9 knts? 150 miles?

Bill your attachment isn't working. At least for me.
I know there is at least one divider in my ballast tank. I'll try and find a picture...
You can kind of see it toward the back.
Remember this is on my 26D and that is the dagger board trunk you see in the foreground. I imagine the 26X has some type of long slot for the swing keel.

Mr Bill. I installed a 35 gal. fuel bag in my water ballast. When I pulled the boat out I had perhaps a liter left, I didn't run out.
Dry Tortugas. Size does matter, the tight fit holds it in place. I purchased the Ballast Plus System which is complete including the hatch. I would ask them if sold separately.
My system is for the 26X, they are making 1 for the 25M, it may be in production now? With others to follow. I love the space saving of mine, empty fuel lockers, not, they have fenders, shoes and whatever. I get fuel on the road before launch which is 1$ a gal. cheaper than marinas. They also have water bags.

For safety, perhaps a multibolt manhole type cover is more appropriate than a hatch? Would also be a good time to install a pump to remove water ballast while stationary upon the water.

Update: My phone call was returned by Daniel of Ballast plus. A whole system will be around $1500 and Daniel said they are gonna sell components as well. Bladders made in USA and to fit our tank. Forgot to ask who's making the bladders. I already have a Nauta/imtra 27"x63" to fit a forward tank snug. I want a hatch. He described it as stainless with screw on lexan cover and can be fiber glassed on. He designed it. 10"x14" Suppose to be reasonably priced. Daniel said more details to be on his web site the end of this month. I have no relationship with these folks other than a potential customer.

I saw a sailboat setup for long range cruising and they had 2 2x6 boards, one on each side attached to the side posts for the safety wire. They had lots of stuff tied to them including several jerry cans for gas and water. It seemed like a good idea and I'm thinking about doing it myself.

that works, but moves a lot of weight up high. (raises center of gravity). much easier to roll the boat.
not a big deal on a displacement sailboat, (not good, but not as bad.)
just never motor with the ballast empty and jerry jugs loaded up on the rails.. or yeah, it can roll.... with a little help.
