Hello,
Have an aluminum fuel tank - 20 gallon diesel. Fuel guage is a dowel rod  inserted into the fill tube, which is directly on top of the tank via the cockpit floor and short hose between. The dowel lives on hangers in the locker, and is deployed after removing the teak grate cap and then the fuel cap, and dipping it down to the bottom of the tank, and then comparing marks on the rod. While this works, it's not as nice as a guage, or better - NMEA data to my chartplotter
The problem is that there is no provision to install a sending unit in the tank. I'd have to remove the tank, drain it and render it explosion proof, then cut a hole. The tank is in perfect condition so I don't want to replace it only for this project.
What I'm looking for is maybe an external NMEA sender, a la tank monitors for plastic water tanks, but that is designed for aluminum, and fuel. -Or- any other ideas.
Thank you,
Jeff
