I believe there were more than 507 made. Our '85 is hull 590, and a google search shows someone has number 671, and someone has 3, so unless they skipped numbers in between, there were probably at least 700 made.

It's important to remember that O'Day had a company on the West coast building these boats. If they built 507 of these boats in the Fall River Ma. plant, they probably built that many in CA.

Personally, I think that the O'Day 28 was one of the nicest looking boats that O'Day ever built. Someone has one moored on the river not too far down from our yacht club. That boat has nice lines to it.

Years ago I went to Rudy's store, D&R Marine in Assonet Ma. and Rudy showed me some scrap books that had all the information of every model boat that O'Day built at their Fall River plant including the number of boat models for each year until they went out of business. I guess they threw in all these books when Rudy bought all their O'Day molds and parts back then.
From what I understand, TPI Pearson in Warren RI was building some O'Day sloops years ago. Cape Cod Shipbuilding is still building the O'Day Day Sailer I think. I know that Rudy was building the O'Day Widgeon for a while. He was contracting them out to a guy in Bristol RI who builds Lema boats. I went down to his plant and took a tour of it. The guy even builds wind scoops for tractor trailers. All the lay up is by hand in that plant.
I also toured the O'Day factory twice back in 1986 and saw my new O'Day 222 being built. It was quite a thrill.
