Hi,

I am about to apply your tips for a great buff wax. Someone else I know recommended the Meguiars Diamond Cut Compound #85 2.0,which has diminishing abrasives. It did not appear to have any "essential oils" or silicone in it.

Thoughts???

While "Diamond Cut" is body shop safe it is a very aggressive compound. Unless you are severely oxidized, or really good with a buffer, I would stay away from Diamond cut. Meguiar's rates it as their highest level of "cutting" at a level 10... Getting rid of the swirls left by it can be time consuming..

Maine Sail if I just want a good shine can I go direct to the Presta Ultra Cutting Creme or do you recommend to do the Gel Coat Compoud first? Also is there a big different between Ultra Cutting Creme and Ultra Cutting Creme Light. Thanks for your advise

I just buffed out my oxidized hull with Meguiars made for fiberglass hulls and it worked extremely well. No need to use aggressive compounds, just the blue bottle off the shelf from West marine.
Cheers,

The blue bottle product is an amateur grade compound/polish. It contains "cheater oils" to "lube" the pad. You may find that the shine does not last as long as you'd like because the oils make it shine up prematurely.
