Last sail, not bad for Minnesota!

This year the sailing season lasted 224 days at our club... we pulled the first week of December. I'm already starting to shake due to lack of sailing but all and all not bad for being so far north. The club lets us in as soon as there is not ice under the crane, and if we are lucky that can be mid April. Other freeze-zone boats stay in long too?

Here's a clip from our 2nd to last sail. Thanksgiving-ish. It was 28F and we swept 2 inches of snow off the deck!

our season in az ended at the end of october, thats when the water temps drop below 80 degrees F. thats considered the same as surface ice out here.

LOL thats funny, I should have guessed that this would seem most wild to Arizona sailors. But you get used to the cold. From mid September the summer temps slowly start to slide down, so gradual you don't notice it. Then one day you've got your jacket, boots, and gloves on. What just happened here??

We put in this year almost as soon as the ice was gone. Our last sail was Nov 2-4. With the warm up that followed soon after we were sorry we didn't go on another weekender. If the lakes wouldn't freeze we would probably consider sailing year round.

We're got the same weather. November was mostly OK, light snow several times and no real cold (below 20) till late. I have a heater in the boat but still stress over the diesel until its winterized. As it was, there was snow on the ground when we pulled, and had to bust thru some sheet ice as we came to the crane. That's about as close as I want to cut it! I too would stay in all year if we could, but that's just not going to happen here, Sadly!

LOL! Almost the same weather. Southern WI is a long way from "Canada"! LOL

Seriously - my brother in law has been pressuring us for years to move to Duluth.
sounds fun! (not) wait - sounds fun! (not not). I'm more inclined to go south or west.

He has an S2 7.0 that never sees the water anymore since he started having kids.

top, Now I see... the big First 367 is in Bayfield (canada).. the 'little' first 260 in the vid is in balmy Lake Minnetonka!

you got that right,as parttime sailing nudist,the wife and I could be in serious risk of harm trying to sail in Minnesota weather.

I'm sure you're right about becoming accustomed to the cold, but we live in Maryland which is quite temperate, and I'm not headin' out in 28F conditions.
