Can anyone tell me the wire color coding on the fans? I've got two and am unable to get them to work, and wiring them just to the battery.

You mean a fan....

...like the one above. I don't remember any problem to speak of. Does it...

...have a sticker on it saying that it is 12 volts like above?

Personally I wouldn't waste your time if this is for cooling. I did and it wasn't worth it. They actually consume a lot of elect. for the small about of cooling they provide.

I have more here on what will work and why I don't like the computer fans...

If they don't work one way, reversing the wires should work. More than two wires? There is usually info on the fan's web site if you bought them new.

With most computer fans red is 12V +, black is 12V -, yellow is for a remote speed control, no need to connect the yellow.

Make sure you have a 12V DC fan not another DC voltage or a 120V AC fan. They make them both ways...

Depends

I would agree with Sumner if the fan was for your personal cooling. But I have used them for ventilation in place of "solar vents." Mine only consume .08 amps and flow a lot of air compared to the NICRO solar vents.

Yep to move some air around for some ventilation might not be bad. Even the one I had at .13 amps is only about 3 amp/hrs a day. The main drawback to the couple that I've tried is that you have to have them right next to your face almost to even feel them.

The Caframo above blows air on both of us on the low setting which is only .21 amps or about 1.7 amp/hrs per night. Even high is only .34 amps and we have never turned it to high for sleeping.

The one above is not cheap at about $100, but has the 3 speeds, the gimbal mount and has 2-4-6-8 hour built-in timer. We found some of their free standing models on sale for $25 at Home Depot without the timer or gimbal mount and use those in the cabin of the Endeavour during the day.

Another pretty good low energy 12 volt fan that is cheaper is the O2 Cool fans....

.... they run on batteries or an AC adapter. The AC adapter converts to 12 volts so one option is cut it off and put on a 12 cigarette plug,
