Huzzah for the forum!!!!

Yeah, I've got to second that commotion. I've been fooling with sailboats all my life; but the internet for only a couple of years. In that couple of years, I now wish I knew more about the web, and the boat as well. Prior to all this, I was at the mercy of "dock advice", or manufacturers. If I asked a buddy about a problem, his advice was always, "Oh yeah man, it'll be fine". The jobber was, "You're going to have to buy a new one, PLUS this thousand dollar accessory to make it work". No common ground.
So now when I have a hair brained question, I still get both of those, but in the meantime, some very competent and relevant advice. And a couple of jabs as well for my B.S.
When a man doesn't know you. he's kind of free to say what he feels.
And woe be to the man who thinks he knows it all..

So, my thanks to all of you as well. At the very least, just for putting up with me.

The Free Advice is Fine, But ..................

..................... I'm still trying to figure out how to get people to actually drop by the boat and perform some of their free advice. Talk's cheap.

Pizza, beer, the babe next door in short shorts .................. nothing seems to work :cry:.

Seconded...

I spent the first part of the 90's in a foxhole in the Iraqi desert dreaming of a boat...and a horizon.

After I returned home I spend five years visiting this website to learn as much as I could. Then I took the plunge.

I have a 1978 33" Hunter. This site (and the people in the know) have provided invaluable knowledge from thier own experience. I have made many upgrades that have allowed me to have the boat that suits my particular needs.

In fact, I lived on my boat for months (during the winter in Philadelphia) and had the time of my life.

Once a month I go to the bookstore and read every sailing magazine. Occasionally, there is one, maybe two, items I can use.

The rest of the time I use this website to find out what to do, what product to do it with, and how to do it.

It is always fun, generally inexpensive, and I have learned to know what is behind every sound my boat makes.

I have appreciated all the help, advice, assistance, and world of experience the "posters" bring to something we all support as a labor of love.

What, you've got no indoor "health clubs" nearby? You wouldn't need to necessarily join up. And there's always (for now) the internet!

We started on this site in 2000 and bought our first boat based on what we learned here. This site moved us off shore for 2 1/2 years on a 38 foot boat and kept the fire burning when we had to come back. It has sailed with us ever since and helped others that we have taught to sail..
Thank you Phil, Maine and Mr. Bad Obsession and everyone else. It couldn't have happened without all your input.

Yeah Rick, I think this forum started in the summer of 1996 running on a Macintosh 7200. You must be 1997 if not earlier. The earliest users I can recall are Steve Weinstein who showed up in '96, Brad Bachelor, who later started The Trailer Sailor, and Steve Dion. If anyone else is here from back then let me know!

A great place for knowledge

Hello all,

I couldn't agree more with the other posters about how helpful this forum has been. For me my connection with this board started back in March of 2005 with the post: "Going to California" (looked it up just to be sure). Back then I didn't know a spreader from a spinnaker and had the "crazy" idea of buying a boat and becoming a liveaboard without having ever set foot on sailboat. Anyway with the help of many of this forums members I was able to figure out what I needed to know and was able to make this dream a reality, something that I continue to enjoy to this day and I know is directly tied to what I learned here.

Thanks for all the help over the years and believe me I'm sure there are more questions coming...

Ok, I've only been active here for a little while. Ever since I got my BIG BOAT. I've been active on the little board since 2001 with my 16' AMF Sunbird. I've learned a lot from both boards. I've even been corrected in what I KNEW was fact. I am very glad that this forum and trailersailor.com are available to offer suggestions, get correct information and to pass along things I've learned the hard way.
