Insurance Query(made up)

After putting up a spoof thread to find out if the sailing community has any empathy for a ficticious person in an unfortunate financial situation it would appear that "americanism" is alive & kicking even within these hallowed grounds!

I do hope all the back-stabbers & finger pointers feel like the schmucks they really are!:naughty:

I think you might find that the marina requires you to name them, so when you cancel they will get notice.

Yachting expensive! Who knew?

The insurance isn't to protect you, it's to protect everyone else from the damage you may cause.

Yes I see the flaw. Everybody that has insurance ends up paying for the uninsured or the under insured. Just like on an automobile policy. Why do they want to know about auto insurance and driving records? To determine how responsible an individual you are. $100 a year is a pittance compared to operating and maintaining a boat. Yes, you are not only a cheapskate but also irresponsible if you proceed with your "plan".

And what do you plan to do for the following year? Insurance companies don't like it when policies are taken out and then promptly cancelled. They keep records and share information among themselves about such ocurrences. It happens once or twice and then no insurer will offer coverage.

Insurance-you get what you pay for and then they don't. Take a look at Charter Lakes Insurance for best coverage and service or Boat/US for good coverage.

I hope this is a joke thread and April fool's day is close by.

There are so many things wrong with this OP makes my bones hurt.

I had two boats at the lake this summer. One on the slip, and another on the trailer just sitting. Had a million dollars coverage on both of them to cover my butt should my boats hurt or harm anyone else's property or person.

Again, I hope this thread is just pulling everyone's leg.

Damn Irrisponsible!

I underpriced everything, & it comes to $100 a year basic, & I was going to do a 4 payment plan & cancel after the 1st 3months, therefore giving the Marina the insurance policy they require to put on record, & costing me the absolute minimum from my retirement fund.
Can anyone see any flaws?

PS, comments on cheapskatery & "I'm glad I don't sail on your lake!" etc are unwanted as I have my financial reasons for taking this route............
Don't care about YOUR financial situation....It is your responsibility to protect us from YOU. UK Driver License....I guess you are used to others paying for you.

This is America If you don't want to follow OUR policies you are cordially invited to GO BACK TO THE UK.

I believe that progressive will have a pretty severe cancellation "fee" as well... Might be cheaper to keep it. I KNOW they do on motorcycles.

Get some real insurance or let the boat go...many of us are really tired of paying for those like you. Your finances are no worse than ours, we just have insurance to protect us from folks like you. BTW, here in the US, your plan is fraud plain and simple.

As a former adjsuter and sailboat dealer, some perspective.

Over the years, litigation has increased. Even though the marina may not be repsonible for the accident you caused resulting in injury and/or damage, lawyers will include on the lawsuits, eveyone. This is why most if not all marinas now require insurance policies with them named as an insured as well.

If anyone feels this is ridiculous, maybe you should rethink ownership as the marinas are looking out for all other patrons to include themselves from those who do not have coverage. If a policy is cancelled for any reason to include non payment, anyone named as an insured will recieve notice which is pretty much standard. $100 is cheap and if you cannot afford that, maybe you should resonsider owning a boat giving consideration to others.

I have my boat insured through State Farm who also has my homeowners and auto policies. It only increased my rates by $65/year. I only carry liability and I keep my boat on its trailer when not in use. My homeowners policy already covered my boat when parked in my yard and my auto covers it when I'm towing. So they were able to give me a good deal covering my boat when I am actually sailing.... you know....to make sure that if I dinged somebody else's expensive boat, I can cover the damages.

Maybe you can lower your rates if you keep it on a trailer instead of at a mooring ... or at the least use the money you spend on a mooring to cover your insurance. You will probably come out ahead using a trailer. If your boat cuts loose in a storm and bangs into other people's boats, and you don't have the money to replace and/or fix their boats, then you have taken someone else's dream and flushed it. Not cool!

Brilliant!

Bo-hoo on your finances. Your reasoning is suspect.

And if you cannot afford $100/year...

And BTW, what is your citizenship status? Are you an American citizen or have you also found a way to defraud the US on that too?

Re: Insurance Query(made up)

Britmick;

I will make a few comments and a few guesses. I actually understand your position, being that I am retired and have a limited income. (And for those who know me and think I just fibbed, it is actually true. I am retired, and I do have a limited income.)

But, I guess you also do not have a wife, kids, or even a dog that need to be protected from those who will go after you AND THEM should your boating experience go bad?

And you do not have a home that you are buying or have paid off by now?

Or renting?

So, just thinking of that --- the home, that is -- my home owners insurance covers my boat if under 27 feet. If you have a home and policy -- go ask your agent about that.

Other than that, will you be offended too if I offer that deep sea fishing is better than TROLLING?

Your welcome, y'all come back real soon and we'll have some sweet tea on the porch.
Feel better now?
BTW I'm sure many in the south will not appreciate your accusation of racism.

In Britain we have a saying "If the cap fits, wear it!"

Which to the slower off the mark on here means,If you are guilty of something, then own up to it!

Here in Springfield they openly use the "N" word & slur people of colour, you wouldn't believe how backward some of the people are,but hey, didn't you make the coloureds sit on the back of the bus when they came home from fighting for your country, etc, etc?????

Amazing how fast someone's public profile changes once he blabs about fraud.

There is no such thing as someone in an unfortunate financial situation that owns a sailboat. Sailing is a recreational activity and can be lived without.

Unfortunate financial situation is when someone cannot feed or clothe their kids.

Can't wait to see this dude show up on SA or SN.

Time to ban this loser!

!..I am currently finding that people in the South may have many racist traits, ...

Hmmm.... I think painting a perceived group of individuals with a "broad brush" is the very definition of bigotry.

And may I point out that slavery was started here when we were a British Colony and it was Americans who went to war and died to end it. Okay, okay that is a Pollyanna view.... I'll admit it.... I said it just to make a point of how ridiculous this has become. The echo of slavery will be here for some time....Do you really want us to chronicle the British Empire's sins? We could do that for any country.

...visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.... Exodus 20: 1-26 & 24:7; Deuteronomy 5:9 & 24:16; Numbers 14:18;

To get back to your situation. Keep your boat on a trailer and use the mooring expense to cover liability. Problem solved.
