How do you lace the rope on the back of the boom to the blocks on the sides of the cockpit ? And how do you Run the lines from the sail back to the cockpit do I need blocks at the base of the mast ? I am new to this sailboat stuff ! I got a pontoon boat that we use most of the time but got this new to us toy it's a macgregor 22 with a 9.9 Nissan 4stroke elec start. What do you all thank of that motor combo? It deals like it weighs a lot .

I don't have a 22 but could probably figure it out if you posted some pictures. of the boom and cockpit.

and a 4stroke 9.9 is probably over kill for a 22. where are you located?

Yep you will want blocks at the base of the mast then run the line over to a set of deck organizers and back to a cleat or clutch neat the cockpit.
Here are some ideas.
(Thanks to whoever posted them. I'm building on them.)
You can learn allot from Google searches....

I borrowed this from someone on this site.... forget now who...
Me. There are quite a few mods at the Mac 25 sailboat knowledge site. Dwyermast.com http://www.dwyermast.com/ has a nice deck organizer the goes under your tabernacle at a reasonable price. Use blocks there to redirect your halyards to the side and cheek blocks or deck organizer to bring them back.
IMHO you only need come cam cleats to lock the lines down. No need for clutches or winches.

I tried a 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke on my Venture 22. IMHO it put too much weight at the back of the boat, so I went back to the trusty old 8hp Johnson 2 stroke. The 22 is pretty light, so it is easy to get up to hull speed. I also like to take the motor off and put it in the back of the truck when I tow the boat.

Accoring to the captain on the Bounty there were 27 ropes. One being the rope that rings the bell. :snooty: :snooty:

However, I do believe you use a rope to keelhaul a crew member...

Isn't it fun to pretend your a real sailor, policeman, or pilot and use all those authentic words and phrases just like when you were a child!! On my boat though during an emergant time it still boils down to "pull that fu**en red rope Now you idiot".

Just like on mine. Except I resort to pointing my finger and saying (bellowing):"THIS!!! PULL!!!! HARDER!!! THE BLUE ROPE!!! OK, thank you...".

Using the correct terminology helps avoid misunderstandings and may be life saving in an emergency. It's that mindset that requires the use of the word 'line'.
