Hi everybody
Thanks for all great info on this forum. I just got mac26x (fair condition 5300$ with 40hp and furler :)!). I think I will keep it for some years. Sails are pretty bitten up and I would like to buy a new one . I requested some quotes from North Sails ($1200 genoa cdi furler, $1200 main three refs full batt) , other places offer sails in $500 range . I sail lakes and Chesapeake . Question : is the price correspond with significant improvement in sailing performance ?

Yes. The Volvo cup guys have very expensive sails.
But, remember its a MacGregor 26 with a 40 hp motor on the back.
Here is a link to Minneys. They might have something good for cheap.
MINNEY'S YACHT SURPLUS - WE MAKE BOATING AFFORDABLE
I would go for the $500 each ones myself. The newer materials are becoming easier for any loft to get and make sails with. Just do your homework as to material for your application.
Congratulations on the new boat. Great deal too!

That price is a steal!!!!! What state did you find the boat in?

As Finding says, you're not going to win any races with that boat so go for cheaper sails

good time to buy a boat! that sounds like a great deal!

I'd get cheaper main sail for now. but the RF headsail, will be nice! *depending on how often you lower the mast...

no matter what, the X is not going to be fast. and the RF isn't going to help going to weather.

Its a dual purpose boat. if you need to go to weather in a hurry, use the engine!

now a big crusing genniker... that would probably get some use on the bay.

Thanks for an advice.
Price was a steal, months of craigs list monitoring paid off;-)
I did the same monitoring and got my 26D ( It's much faster and nicer looking than the X ;)) almost a year ago. $3400.
You just have to be ready. Oh. Cash helps too. (Sellers love it when you offer them half of what they are asking and say you will be there with cash in an hour!... Well some of them do...)

i will definitely call Judy.
is full batten vs partial batten makes the difference?. I had full batten on my venture 22 (which I will miss dearly:cry:) and it work great.
