Does anyone know where I can find the serial number on a 1979 Irwin 39' citation? Not in the customary location at the stern. I've found some applied numbers in the v berth, but I think they are Coast Guard registration numbers. I'm also looking for the serial number on the engine, a Yanmar 3HQ30.

I don't know about your Yanmar specifically, as these engine numbers are sometimes a searching act, but there will be a flat boss somewhere, where they can stamp this number in manually after the block is cast. A lot of times behind the head facing up.
The boat "should" have the number on the upper right of the transom, and sometimes in the center down low near the waterline. I've seen them so painted over that it was near impossible to make out. With some very carefull work with a light piece of sandpaper, especially on the upper right transom area will vaguely bring it back out. Then with the old pencil tracing on a piece of paper may get you the number.
That may be of no help, but I see no other replies to this, and without a specific knowledge of this vessel, I hope it helps somewhat..
