Solar Vent location?

I want to install a solar powered vent on my Oday 25 before winter sets in.
I have read pros and cons about the Nico solar powered vent and see one on Defender quite a bit cheaper but I plan to try the Nico 4" vent.

I have a 4" port on the foredeck for the original Oday air intact.

Do I put the new vent in place of the 4" port or put it on the foreward hatch?
On the hatch it will probably get kicked less than on the foredeck but of course the 4" port will make the install much easier. Not sure where it will be safer from flapping jib sheets or even if that is a consideration.

Ward, that is a great question. We've talked and talked about installing
one, but I guess we figured that it would be a tripping hazard on the foredeck...We had a stainles Becksn Vent-o-mate that was a perfect jewel
on our Catalina 22..it was up on the cabin top in a spot seldom stepped on, & did a fabulous job in the Kansas wind...It is foolproof and never leaked a drop in 6 years...again this was the stainless model.....I'm thinking of installing two of those this spring.....we would go to the boat on a 100 degree Friday evening and those vent-o-mates would vent the hot air out of the boat so it was very pleasant when we arrived at the boat....not an hour later. I look forward to other peoples thoughts on the location.

Hi Pat,
Not sure if anyone has a thought since your the first reply in a week, lol.

I looked at the Beckson Ven o mate after seeing your post. Sounds like a good alternative to the solar powered vent. I will keep that in mind if the powered vent fails.

The solar vent I got requires you to mount to it to the deck. I decided to mount it on the fiberglass hatch. I think it will be less exposed to foot traffic than just in front of the anchor locker. Plus that preserves the original deck port for installation of the factory supplied scoop vent.
