The bilge in my Catalina 310 doesn't appear to have room to mount a bilge pump on the floor of the bilge. The manual pump works great, but the electric pump that was in it when I purchased the boat wasn't attached to anything. I'm replacing the pump, and trying to figure out the best way to mount it. Has anyone had a similar problem/solution?

Mine has a small riser pipe maybe 3 inches tall after the check valve. I have a clamp around this riser screwed into the cross member bracing. I am not convinced that this is ideal. It holds the bilge pump secure and is easy to access and change in a hurry (learned that the hard way) but I don't like the 90 degree bend and the 1000 gph pump doesn't sit low enough to really empty the bilge.

will do; I don't see any way to get the pump as low as I'd like; I think I'm going to have 2-3 inches of water left when the pump stops; then I'll just have to use the manual pump to empty it occasionally. Not a big deal, but I'd prefer to have a little more room for the pump.
On the 309's Catalina glued a piece of starboard to the bottom of the bilge then screwed the removable bottom of the Rule 1000 pump to the starboard. This still leaves about 1" of water in the bilge. Also the new Rule 1000 pumps are larger than the older version so you may need to turn the pump about 30 degrees to make it fit between the keel bolts. I had to replace mine about 2 years ago and I think the 309 and 310 share the same bilge design. You will never get all the water out of the bilge these pumps unless you use a small hand pump. Bob
I keep a turkey baster and a cup in the aftmost section of the bilge to get the last bit of water out. Works nicely since you can get it between hoses, the pump and the bolts. Obviously it's not for emergencies!!
