I'm considering the purchase of an 84 Hunter 31 with a "Swim Platform" (the seller is calling it a "Sugar Scoop"). Did Hunter offer a "Swim Platform" option for the sailboat? Or, do you think it was an aftermarket addition? If so, what concerns should I have? I've included a photo of the sailboat too ...

That looks like something a PO had fabricated to fit on the stern of the boat. I'd be concerned with how it was attached and how strong the attachment was. A good surveyor should be able to figure out if there are issues here.

Refuge, I've never seen a 31 with the platform, but that's not to say it isn't factory, 'cause Hunter did/does make boats with them. That one however, looks like an addition.

I am sure that is an add on. Friends or ours had a sugar scoop installed on their Freedom 32. It looks great and the owners say it adds some boat speed due to the longer water line but the great feature they say is the dinghy embark debark process.

Several 34s had the scoops added by owners. I would think it depends on the quality of workmanship, but it makes a much nicer boat IMHO.

Lee Coller, thanks and I'll get her surveyed.

Chris, I agree and will have it surveyed. Thanks!

That is awesome! I have a Hunter 31 1985, and I wish it had a platform like the newer ones... sweet!
