The old good news bad news. 30 year old Adler Barbour refrigeration failed. Not gonna try to resurect it. New unit won't ship till next Wednesday. Prime fall cruising time, what to do? Gonna SAIL up and down Charlotte Harbor till Tuesday PM. Probably won't get 20 miles from home. Anchor out depending on wind direction. Probably won't get 30 minutes on the engine. Gonna have a great time in a great sailing venue. May well run aground. Have before in our home waters.

Bill you need a cooler and some ice. Or start sailing North. This is the best time of year to not need the cooler or ice! I'll soon start using our back porch as a freezer. Perfect for leftovers after big family dinners.

We'll be using our Engel freezer/frig as a frig until new frig is installed, so things will be just fine.

Since you have a "box" freeze some plastic jugs and maybe buy some block ice and cubes since the cubes melt too fast, but are great for sundowners.

You must recollect all those great ideas from previous posts on this subject. Even from our brethren down south who'd have to sail WAAAY far to even get to the southern end of the "north."

What did you buy to replace the AB and from where? Mine's gettin' long in the tooth, too.

Nother AB. Had one on our live aboard in the 90's, one on our previous cruising boat. Liked them both. Trouble free. No reason to change. Bought from local AB dealer/ Pompano Fl. AB office

Bill we will be doing the same thing. Probably drop the hook in Pelican for a few days. We have an appointment on the 1st we can't miss. Plan to go back out after the appointment. Don Pedro, Boca, Pelican here we come.

Bill, you do realize how lame your post is. The midwest is turning cold and boats are being winterized, the east coast is bracing for Hurricane Sandy, and you are whining about using ice! Freeze the steaks, freeze bottles of water and pack it all in the box. Hoist a sail and cruise on (but you might want to pack a can of tuna or spam in case it gets too warm All in fun, wish you a great time; just green with envy!
