rub rail

I have looked and looked for rub rail. At last I found some but you can not buy pieces. So my thought is to replace the entire rub rail and the part that screws against the boat. I have had an impossible time measures the width of what exists. If I just replaced the entire thing all the way around the boat does the width matter in that case? As long as it is wider would I be okay? It is not cheap doing it this way but this may be the only thing I can do.

I finally bought 20 feet of rub rail. I figured I would start with that. Now I need to figure what size screws, do you have any clew? I think I saw somewhere they were #8 but did not find length.
