Just some photo's showing our failed keel cable and how we kinda circumvented the issue with much luck on our side :).

On the plus side the anti-fouling seems to have done its job for the most part.

LOL,

I only looks that way. It took a combined 5 hours or so to finally get that jury rigged hook into the hole in the swinger that the cable normally passes thru. I spent about 30 minutes diving on it and was still not successful in setting the hook. Next year you can be sure that the swinger and box will be anti-fouled. I'm also thinking of ways to run a hose into a snorkel mouth piece for breathing while diving underneath.

Hi c_witch,

Forget the hose and snorkel idea. You won't be able to pull the air down the hose more than perhaps 12 inches below the surface. It's that old water pressure, air pressure, lung capacity thing.

Re: the pictures......It looks like you could remove the pivot bolt and slide the centerboard aft out of the trunk. That would allow for scraping, painting of both the board and the inside of the trunk. You could also inspect the pivot bolt and replace it before it lets go.

Just thinking.

C witch; At least you can eat the mussels you grow on your boat! Around here there too small and the Zebra kind. They just power wash off.
I was at the yacht club fall clean up day today. My daughter brought home 8 new zebra mussel pets! I'll see how long they last...
I didn't have anything like that on my boat. Just slippery squishy things...
Picture is of my bottom while water ballast is draining.

Hiee,

I was thinking of making like a box with a fan mounted in the open end and then a hose connected to it to try and pressurize the hose a little bit. We'll have to remove the trailer keel support and then remove the pivot pin and work the swinger down and slide it back over the axle I think. Then perhaps sandblast the inside of the box primer and anti-foul it. The keel will be sanded a barrier coat and then anti-fouling.
The cable, cable clamps, and pivot pin were all new this year. That is why I am surprised that the clamps failed. Oh yeah the winch was new as well.

That's a heck of a hook! You use that for NS sabertooth sharks?
LMAO Merlin,

We made the hook from a galvanized 'Spike' ie 6'' inch long and 3/8'' diameter with basically a closed loop on one end for the line and an open j on the other end. We actually had to open the j up at the boat in order to finally get it in the cable hole.

LOL I wish, as I really do enjoy a good feed of muscles. These were only a inch or so, so not really worth the effort. They were numerous enough though to keep the keel from going up into the keel box though.
