Just got a new phone, (smart phone) my first one, Droid...

Looking for a GPS, SOG app marine application..

Mostly I want a good size speedo in knots and maybe a numeric position or compus

Don't necessarily need charts

Any suggestions...?

I use Sailing Speed

Big numbers showing speed and heading.

Lots of stuff out there mate, good luck.

Yeah, there are, did a Google search and had 384 to choose from...

Was hoping some experianced sailors could narrow it down for me...

Sail Droid is perfect, even has a night vs. day lighting feature.
I just found that one...Simple basic and just the couple screens I want...

Even looks like "position mark" can be used as MOB or Anchor monitor...

I use Navionics for my navigation app. Check out gps essentials (free) for a tools based approach (speed/elevation/COG etc in dashboard format.) Also, Anchor watch is fantastic...it will text/email another device if you drift. For a free app, earth nc works nicely.

I've been using MotionX-GPS on my iPhone. You set waypoints using the mapping, then choose a waypoint. In the compass mode, you see SOG, VMP, distance to wp, time to wp, etc.
You can choose the map type ie satelilte, marine, etc.
I usally choose my waypoint, then go to the compass view and monitor my speed and direction.
