Portland departure now scheduled for a decent hour Thursday morning. I'll be taking two young friends as crew who have bought a boat and started the liveaboard life with minimal experience.

I'm going to let them experience the schedule of doing a passage with just the two of them by letting them stand the watches and I will just be on call as needed. We plan to go non-stop to the Cape Cod Canal, spend a night at the south end where I anchored last year, and then continue on to Tiverton, RI where I'll catch up with Lee and Lynn to spend a few days with them.

Plans, as always, subject to change due to weather and whim.

I've been using SPOT on Valinor for two seasons and am a strong advocate for it's many benefits. In addition to the safety and entertainment value it also provides a detailed log of courses traveled. Well worth the modest expense. (examples at www.chesapeaketidings.com)

I noticed that you plan to scoot down Jersey
coast again. I would point out that an old salt
sails Barnagat Bay. And he has written several
books, including a book about the Jersey coast
from NYC to Philidelphia!

Yes, I can appreciate that you do not want
to meet your senior. I met Don years ago
at Annapolis Boat Show.

I can guarantee that he is 86. Discuss sailing
and make an old sea dog's day.

So, what is your hurry? All the pirate booty is
long gone.

You are aware he is following these posts?

I have studied the charts of the
Jersey coast, I have made the
trip with a stop at Atlantic City
for fuel. Yes, I went outside also.

There are draw bridges and
south of Atlantic City silly bridges
that sail boats can not deal with.

So, write about the issues. Open
letter to that skinny Governor. Why
can't all bridges be high rise with
ICW clearances. Remember, Roger
Long is the man! Look at your
following.

At the south end of Barnagat
Bay is a good opening. Arrange to
met that old salt at the south end if
you cannot deal with the bridges on
the north end.

Yes, below Atlantic City, where a
good ICW would be an economic
benefit, there are bridge issues that
New Jersey does not care about.
Maybe team up with other writers
and get New Jersey's attention.

Yea, they will say that they are
broke. So, they should make all
bridges to their islands toll bridges
to let them pay for themselves.

The charts and bridges are a mediocre
excuse not to meet Captain Don. At 86
he is your senior. Throw the old dog a
bone.

There are many who will follow the
wake of Strider, imagine in foul weather
having a chance to go in protected
waters.

We are currently sitting at anchor in Atlantic Highlands, NJ and are planning the long trip the Atlantic City tomorrow. Hope to see you along the way. Have a great trip.
