I couldn't stand seeing all of that area behind the companionway going to waste so built a ...




...unit that takes advantage of the space and still comes out....



...quickly so that we still have fast access to the Perkins under that area and also provides more...



...counter space when needed.

The mod is here down the page a ways.....

Really looks good but do the drawers lock somehow? We get pretty bouncy from boat wakes.

Hello Sumner,
Clever and Well Done! Looks like you can get "a bushel in a peck" with all those drawers. Do you have a pin system of some sort to keep the drawers fully closed when you want them that way? How is the water container restrained? I like both ideas.

But got to ask: Can you still see, let alone get at, the electric breaker panel?

The knobs on the side of the unit are attached to dowels that go ...



...through the side and through the sides of the drawers. Works fine and easy to use.

The lips where the arrows are hold the water from sliding forward. Also it is a tight fit on either side of the water container. If things got real bad the water could go down in the sink or someplace else, but I really think it is going to ride fine there the majority of the time. The following link tells it all...

Here is the view from where I set at the Nav. Station...



Also only the 2 rows of breakers at the bottom are functional. I can see and reach them from the side, but I'm moving all of those circuits to a new switch panel at the Nav. Station and that panel will no longer be used.

I didn't show pictures, but the drawers when shut are pretty water proof from water coming down the companionway. We had a lot of rain, Debbie, and some other storms and no water in the drawers, but the dodger also helps there.

I couldn't believe the ingenuity that went into the Mac. Now it being replicated in the Endeavour You are a very talented craftsman with an amazingly creative mind. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ross, I used Minwax stains and their indoor/outdoor Helmsman Spar Urethane...



...on about everything on the Mac, like above, and it looks as good today as when I did it about 3 years ago. I'm happy with it and you can get it about any hardware store or Home Depot, so that is what I'm using on all of the Endeavour projects (inside) also.

I try and put on at least 3 coats of the urethane and do that on all sides and edges, even those that are hidden. So far so good. I make stuff, but I'm far from being a cabinet maker or fine furniture maker and don't have any training along those lines. I've just been kind of self-taught so anyone looking at what I've done needs to keep that in mind and be very open to better methods and/or products to use.

We think of the Endeavour as almost another trailer boat as we will only be using her 2-3 months out of the year unless we decide to do more since we live over 2000 miles from the boat. The rest of the time she will be sitting up on stands further from the water than a lot of houses in Florida. Hopefully the next owners will feel that they got a lot more boat than we did at time of purchase, but being a boat she will need further care.

If we were younger, the boat worth more, and the time we would own her longer we'd probably be looking at more expensive and possibly longer lasting lumber and construction methods. Right now it is make her as functional as possible for how we want to use her and try and get past the construction phase. Hopefully when we go back it will be paint the bottom (barrier/antifouling), put the new thru-hulls in as per MS's good advice, plumb the water tanks and holding tank, do a little wiring and finally, hopefully get out on the water for a couple months straight :).

Awesome reading Sum!

Good morning Sum,

I almost feel like I know you after reading so much of of your building and cruising pages last night. Around midnight I got so inspired that I graped a cold beer hopped on the golf cart and rode down to the communities deep water dock to look inside my little C-25 to find room to build some shelves or do some over head storage. Sadly there is no room for it near the galley area. However on the other side there's plenty of room for a microwave pedestal and room for a couple of drawers that I need so badly. On that I'll be able to hang a small door that will close off the aft under cockpit sleeping area for our boys. They will think that's neat (6 & 10yr olds) since they call that area their bear cave. Once again thanks for all the posting and pics that you did. You did some amazing metal work with the stern railing and swim ladder stuff.
