CAL/25 Keel lead Removal Help

Hey everybody, I Just bought a Cal25 I need to take the lead out of the Keel, Anyone out there have any ideas on this ? Is the lead in a block loose inside the keel ? Whats holding it in ? I can stick my arm down inside and seem to feel a eye bolt head . The Cal site says its 1400 Ibs for this boat. I Need to get it out, Right now I have the boat up on stands off the keel and very very stable. any Ideas ?

I have actually thought of cutting a small door on the side of the keel and just letting it fall out on the ground. There's no way to lift it from the inside up, But i'm not sure if its loose in the keel box. and really how large it is, Iv'e read on here some people say the keel weight rattles around, in my case I hope that's true. Ideas ?

About 720 pounds per cubic foot. Why do you have the need to remove it?

I believe it's a solid piece. Do a Google Internet search on "cal 25 lead keel removal". There is a post about the fiberglass surrounding the lead slug pulling away from the lead. They recommend using some fiberglass to take up the slack (fill it in)to fix it. (the wood shims inside rot leaving a space)

Is that the issue?

Don't know exactly I was under the impression that the lead was poured into the hull and would be almost impossible to get out. Not sure you could heat it enough to melt it without damaging the fiberglass hull.

Why on earth do you/must you remove the lead?? Sounds crazy. Also, how do you intend to lift a peice of lead that large out of the inside of the cabin? You will likely have to cut the floor and then cut the cabin top. My Cal 34 III had encapsulated lead keel that was great... no keel bolts to worry about. Mine was a solid peice of lead that took up the fron half of the keel leaving a large void to the rear in the keel. Fiberglass was extremely thick... had to repair a dent from p/o (my iuncle) who had hit a rock. Fiberglass was thich and appeared to be attached to the lead.

So again, why the need to remove. Also, sounds pretty crazy having the boat fully supported by jack stands prior to kowing how to remove.
