Catalina 30 Engine ID

Hi-

I purchased a 1980 tall rig Catalina 30 this season which currently has a Universal diesel. My question is how do I know which engine it is, ie: 5411, 5416 or 5424?

Go to www.marinedieseldirect.com and compare the engines with what you have in your boat. Raw water or fresh water cooled?

If you pull the dip stick from the tube..there should be a stamp on it...Z500. That is the Kabota engine block category for the 5411 type Universal engines...which are also used on many small tractor engines made by Kabota.

Other than that, compare pictures to congruency...

I think a 5424 is 3 cylinders so that should differentiate it from the other two models. A 5416 might have Z-751 on the dipstick and a 5411 Z-500 as jrhamp said

You can write Kent at Catalina Yachts and ask what the build sheet for your boat says was in there. You need your hulll number.

By 1980 I'd say it's an M21.
