Cetol Removal-Chemical or Sand It Off

OK the Cetol has to be removed from the toe rail and then reapplied.

Is there a chemical paint/varnish remover that's safe if it lands on the gelcoat or do I have to use elbow grease and sand for hours?

My experience with Cetol is that it sands off easily.

I've had good success removing old Cetol with a chemical stripper called Soy Strip. It's safe for gel coat and easy on the environment.

A little heat makes it scrape off easier. Scraping is easier on the wood if you are carefull. Sanding can wear down the wood too much.

I know that heat does do a good job but I'm thinking that by not being careful (I can do a good job of not being careful) could accidently fry/burn the gelcoat.

Then I have another issue...

Cetol can be re-applied over old Cetol with only a light scuffing... I might simply dull it with some bronze wool or some 320 paper and then go back over the old with new.
