I have a flexible furler on my O'Day 272. It has a plastic piece that you attach to the sail with a small piece of line that slides up up and down when you pull the halyard. I cannot raise the sail all the way to the top. I have noticed that most boats with furlers have a round metal piece that slides up and down. This seems like a better design. Does anyone else have this problem with their flexible furler?

I've got a CDI FF #2, and when the forestay is pinned (mast up), it can be a bear to bend on the genoa clear to the top.
When the assembly is lying on benches in my shop, I can slide the luff along the foil with two fingers.

My FF4 has a metal "ferrule" that slides up and down the luff. It is crimped onto the halyard that came with the furler. Actually, on my furler, the PO had lost the halyard, so I called CDI and they shipped one out to me with the metal ferrule on it. Can't remember what it cost but it wasn't expensive.
And yes, on mine, the genoa won't go all the way to the top either. Not sure if this is by design but it seems there's another 6 inches before it enters the top sheave. I'll look at it this winter.

I have a CDI FF-2 Roller Furler and it can be a bear to hoist my Gennie up but it goes all the way up.
What I have been doing to my Mainsail slugs is adding a drop or two of Dawn dish washing detergent to each one and my Mainsail goes up and drops down fast and easy. After a rain, my sail track gets cleaned out pretty good with the soap.
I've never tried lubricating the tape on my Gennie with Dawn, but I bet that it would work equally as well in the vinyl luff as it does in my mast track. I would even try lubing the halyard track on the vinyl luff. What could it hurt?
There Is a ferrule attached to the halyard line that slides up and down in a track on the lufft. i found when i got my boat that the tension on the forestay was not adaquate and caused the luff to be wavey ( not straight) which made it difficult to raise jib.
