Looks like my re-power is going to set the new enging 8 inches farther back in the ecompartment.

Anyone ever see a drive shaft extension? I'm thinking 8" of new shaft with 4" flanges on both ends. Of course balance/trueness is of concern

If the engine is going to be 8" farther aft, wouldn't the shaft be shorter?

I want the engine to sit somewhere close to where it was before. Sitting as far back as it does is going to cause maintenance difficulties

MJ, you'd do better to just get a new shaft and coupling .. You can get prop shaft in about any length you want.. and the old coupling is probably shot so a new one is most likely in order..

Have a friend who used the extra space from a repower to add a water maker, powered by the new engine. He put it on the front of the engine and can produce 10's of gallons of water with little effort. He did the work in the water.

To add a longer shaft you will likely have to pull the boat. I had a good diver change it out in the water for a stern tube repair. So it can be done but it is much easier when the boat is out.
