Replacing my old (SeaTalk) ST4000 autopilot with X-5 AP and P70 (SeaTalking) control head. I must somehow connect all my current ST60 (SeaTalk) instruments with these two new items. Of the 3 manuals I perused I can't quite figue it out. There are really no good examples of any shown in the manuals of what I am trying to accomplish.

So, my current AP control head has 4 cables attached to it that I can use to hook up the new AP and P70 control head. They are 1) SeaTalk cable, 2) power cable, 3) cable to wheel pilot, 4) fluxgate compass. How did you do this?

I do know of the Raymarine website and I have asked the question but no reply yet.

The main issue here is combining the SeaTalk with the SeaTalking. If I would have purchased a SeaTalk control head I think I would have this figued out. The fact is I may just take the P70 back and do just that.

Appreciate the help.

Raymarine is a MESS right now. They are shipping these AP's without the proper cables to connect them. The P70 head is Sea Talk NG (white plug). The course computer has both Seatalk 1 and Seatalk NG on it. You need a long Seatalk NG cable with one end unterminated to connect from the head display to the course computer. What they are sending right now is a wheel drive & computer with the old 30' ST1 cable hey need to ship it with a STNG cable!! Call Raymarine tech support and explain what they shipped and what you need. I just went through the same BS two weeks ago on an AP install. They don't even have a clue as to what they are shipping out.... Go easy on them these guys are getting beat up day in day out with this transition away from the legacy ST1 protocol.

Problem is the old ST-60 stuff is Sea Talk HS or ST1 not Sea Talk Ng / STNG. You may need the converter kit for ST1 to STNG the part number is E22158 if you want new and old to comunicate if you can't get to ST1 on the course computer....

Thanks Maine,
Yes, they sent me the old 30 ft. ST1. They also sent me a shorter (3 ft) STNG cable of which I might use as you describe if I can fit the course computer near the control head (possible).
So, I could connect this STNG cable from computer to control head. I believe it (P70) now needs power? Also, how how do I get the rest of my ST60 instruments all talking? Would I take my current ST1 cable that was originally hooked up to the old control head and run it to the new course computer? Could it be that simple? FYI, Raymarine also sent me a 5 way connector and STNG power cable.
I realize this is not an easy one, at least not for me.

Yep that's what they sent is a STUPID 3' STNG cable!!!! You CAN NOT mount a course computer 3' from a head...... There is a reason the ST1 cable was 30' long, so you could properly mount the computer where it needs to be mounted.

Yes run your ST-60 stuff to the ST1 port on the course computer. If you do radar overlay then you'll need to have ST1 High Speed in order to do radar overlay well.

Ok Maine, will be in touch with RayMarine tomorrow to see if I can get the cable. Thanks for the direction. Will follow up with this thread eventually.

Hi Pat,
I have a new H33 being commissioned and the factory had installed a ST60 deapth, ST 60 speed, P70 and X5.

Not wired correctly. I have posted my request on Raymarine site....and did a lot of research and logical thinking.

You will need to create a SeatalkNG backbone. The transduces are connected to the ST60. The ST60 need to be connected to a SeatalkNG converter. This is a 5 connecter bus, with a yellow connector in the middle. If you have more than one ST60....daisy chain these together and then finally connect it to the yellow connector on the bus.

As I mentioned...the NG converter has 5 connector. The yellow one is now taken. Next connect the p70 to a white connector beside the yellow on (either side). Now you MUST provide power to the bus by connecting a 12V line coming from your panel to the bus. (other white connector) One of the end connectors will need to have blue terminator plugs put in. Now you need to get NG bus (Not a a converter) Daisey chain this one to the open end connector on the converter. Connect you NG output from the X5 course computer to one of the middle white connectors. Put a blue tenimator plug in the last connector.

This is one way of doing it.

In a nutshell:
The ST60 and the p70 can not be connected directly to the course computer and the NG network must have it's own power (not from the course computer)

Thanks Serena1, getting a better understanding of this now. A couple of questions: 1) Is the Seatalk cable to the yellow plug a special or is it just a open end spur cable? 2) Sounds like you need 2 power supplies; one for AP and one for SeaTalking bus (backbone). Can ipower come from the same circuit breaker? Thanks.

Hi Pat, I'm almost certain that the power can come from the same circuit breaker.

About the cable, it's a seatalk cable that plugs in the ST60 and the other end plugs into the yellow connector.

(I am hoping that the dealer will have mine sorted out and then I can verify the connection and cables)

There are several posts regarding this topic on Raymarine technical support forum.

Yes, I have seen your post on the Raymarine site. Thank God for forums!
Let me/us know how the wiring looks when your dealer gets it all working. And good luck with your new boat.

Finally got to following up on this thread. In the end was pretty much as Serena 1 described. I had to purchase the SeaTalk to SeaTalking converter to get my ST60 instruments to talk with the new p70 control head. I was also able to power the AP and the backbone from the same power source.
