Raymarine ST4000 Mk II lever issue

Ladies and gents

My Raymarine St4000 MK II autopilot has developed a very annoying habit.
When it is engaged (lever down) the back and forth motion of the wheel, as the pilot corrects the course, will move the level to a position half way between fully engaged and disengaged.

I have tried adjusting the belt tension without and difference and have opened the using to make sure it was clean and all parts in good condition.

Any light anyone could shed on thow to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the cam is not adjusted properly.

Mine has done that from time to time. There is a small screw on the lever that can be tightened and that should fix the problem.

Yes, this does help. However, be careful you don't over-tighten the screw. It threads into plastic and is easily stripped. Happened to me. I used the misfortune to make the lever to cam joint more robust than the original design. Sorry, but I don't remember exactly what I did! But I've had no troubles for a year now. Prior, I needed to tighten that screw every few months.

Mine has done that from time to time. There is a small screw on the lever that can be tightened and that should fix the problem.

Since we bought our boat 4 years ago our auto pilot would always dis-engage. I asked Ray Marine about this at a couple of different boat shows and no one offered your simple solution. I had been using a shock cord loop to keep the auto pilot working, but tightening the lever screw worked, and it is so much easier using the auto pilot now. Thanks for such a simple (for a change) solution.
