I am seriously considering the purchase of a Catalina 22 in the Fresno California area. There are a couple available on Craigslist, without pop tops.
I have previously owned an Ericson 23, which had about 4 feet of headroom in the cabin, but was a wonderful boat to sail. We aren't used to a lot of headroom, but plenty of cockpit room.
My wife and I enjoyed many overnight sailing trips on our Ericson. I had built a sink in the cabin, and we used a magma grill mounted on a lifeline stanchion for cooking.
So how would a non pop top compare in terms of interior space for two people on an overnight or weekend lake sail?
Is the pop top worth holding out until I can find one? Does it make a lot of difference on an overnight sail?
