I mean I've had it for awhile....I picked it up last fall, worked on it all winter and spring...Launched it, taken it out a few times...

But it's just starting to sink in, that "I Got a Boat...!!!" a big (to me) sail boat with a head and galley that I can travel in, sleep in, cook and eat in.. anchor out sleep under the stars, weather the storms, enjoy the sunrise and sun sets over the water...

I belong to a yacht club ("If you need me, I'll be at the yacht club") I hang around at the marina, I've anchored out in a quiet bay on the islands...My Buddy has a boat too, we've gone out on his, sailed up to the abandoned Haunted lighthouse, cooked on the grill and motored home in the dark...

I got a Boat..!! ...This is so cool...

Having just spent 45 days aboard our boat, I can honestly say............

I NEED ANOTHER 45 DAYS ONBOARD!!!!! The admiral was saying "You know, we could sell the house and store the pop up RV in the marina stack house for those trips on land."

You gotta love a woman who has her priorities straight. :)

Last weekend, anchored out in one of our favorite coves after a nice afternoon sail, the admiral and I were sitting in the cockpit, sipping some wine and drying off after a late-day swim, watching an osprey hunting for its dinner, and she turns to me and says, "I just wanna stay here forever."

Yeah, this is so cool. Enjoy it, Squidd.

I just bought my first sailboat, a 26D. I really like it. It is not my first boat, but the first one with sails. It is nice to kill the motor and just go with the wind. Very relaxing and looking forward to a spending a lot of time on it. But I know hwat you mean about "pinching" yourself. I have been looking at Mac Gregors for about 20 years and finally pulled the trigger.

Every second of it!
Great name for a boat.
I've had my boat in the water since Mothers day this year and have been on it 5 days a week at least.
We just got back from a 12 day vacation in PEI ware we were out on a power boat twice. That didn't cut it for me. I really missed my boat and the relaxing way it goes by sail.
I took a buddy out today. He told me it was "just freaking cool. Really freaking cool."
I told him it was the best $ I have ever spent.
( I started a thread in destinations about missing my boat it got so bad!)

There's something about a sailboat, especially to the uninitiated. Perhaps because it takes a modicum of know how (and that's about all I have) to sail, and it's knowledge only a small fraction of people have, it's viewed upon with greater admiration than is a powerboat. We had a ski boat when I was a kid and nobody viewed it as anything special, but now when people hear that we have a sailboat, they seem to be impressed. And every once in a while I find myself daydreaming about being out sailing and thinking, "Man, this is cool."

Agreed, Indysailor. I love taking someone sailing for the first time on a day with nice winds and watching them just absorb the feeling once the motor is off and we're under sail. Every once in a while while we're sailing, my wife will say, "This is just about the best idea we ever had."

When people asked how big my boat (Beneteau 23-5) was, I'd say, "It's as big as a house". They'd be in awe. Well, it WAS as big- as my townhouse- at 22 feet wide! I remember I'd stand out front and think my boat was a foot longer than the house!

Great thread! Even fun just stopping by to fiddle on the boat without leaving the dock. Ditto for dinner and drinks at sunset.

Kinda like having a teenie-weenie vacation condo!

The dock life is the best. We have been living on our 42 foot sailboat that we keep in HI for 3-4 months a year since 2001. We look out over the East Lock of Pearl Harbor about 500 yards down from the Arizonia and the Mighty Mo. We spend the rest of the time travling in our RV on the mainland. We bought her in Seattle and sailed to HI back in 2000. The 17days 6 hours it took us to go from Eureka, CA to Honolulu was some of the best times of my life. Did it with my oldest son. A boat can really create some great memories for a family.
