Finally got my girl home

I finally got the mast down with the help of my club members and, slowly tugged My Girl home today! The trailer held up but I drove very slow due to concern about those old trailer bearings. Now I am making a list of projects.
1. Install new gauges and compass
2. New teak toerails and hatch slides.
3. Kiwi nonskid.
4. Get my mast raising system set up.
5. Etc etc, the list gets longer minute by minute
It's just too hot and there's often no wind down here this time of year to lake sail

Keith, I noticed an earlier post you made that you had hoped to get a slip at Tyndall AFB, I was just wondering what ever happened to that plan. I am very familiar with
Tyndall, but have not been there in some time, and was curious about how much it had changed. Good luck with your list.

We go there often and stay on base. I am a member of the Tyndall club and Marina, called beacon beach marina. It is nice. They rebuilt after a hurricane a few years ago. The food is good and the beer is cheap. There is currently no waiting list for slips. I'm prepping my girl for the trip down and will probably wet slip her there. But if not, then keep here on the trailer in the trailer lot that is part of the marina,and just launch her when I go down. I can leave the mast up. Unfortunately there is no lift or launch facilities there except a couple of ramps.

That's really great, I can picture it. I am sure that there have been many changes since I was there last, it was always a really great base. Getting the F-22 and the range that is there should hopefully keep them off any immediate future BRAC lists. Next year should bring in the F-16 full scale drone program to replace the F-4's. Are the drone recovery boats still kept there? As I recall there are several full service marina's not far from the bridge that would be able to help you. I'm not sure about the recovery boats. I'll ask my son, he is a crew chief on the 22.

Thanks for the info on the service marinas. It will be good to get down there and get to know the territory from a sailor's point of view.

Keith , your son has a great job. I know because I am a retired CMSgt, that was my occupation for 36 yrs. The F-22's have some glitches right now, but they will get ironed out. I wish him the very best.

Thanks for your service Chief!

While working on through hulls for my new depth and knot sensors, i checked the through hull and seacock for my girl and found them to be leaking and the seacock was not marine rated. It appeared to be a home depot type valve. Removed those with after much "modification" of the galley sink cabinet floor, including the cutting of the shaft of the through hull. I will be replacing theses with marelon components, including flanged seacock. Thoughts?

P.S. You're always welcome to come to Wisconsin in the summer and I'll take you out sailing. Lake Michigan is excellent in the summer, and typically the weather is near perfect this time of year. Lately it has been near triple digits which is hot for us, but it's always cooler on the lake. There are also some cool planes at the EAA in Oshkosh that a retired AF guy would appreciate. That starts next week so we'll see them flying in starting this weekend.

Sounds great Dave, thanks for the invitation. I hope to travel up your way someday soon. I have an old AF buddy who works in Appleton. The reason he settled up there is that it was picked as "the best place to live" by some magazine that does that list every year. Maybe it was 'Newsweek'?
To change my seacocks and thru hull I used mainesail's how to article as a guide.
