Deck organizer.... bearings!

Hello....
So I am a bit puzzled as to what I did wrong. I have a 2 year old Garhauer deck organizer with 4 sheives. There was a slight leak under so I figured I would rebed with butyl tape. I unbolted and while keeping preasure on the open end started lifting it off the deck... sure enough, bearings came tumbling down...... Now what? Do I have to send back? Get bearings and repack myself?

You would think they would make a set screw to keep together... or at least something so when servicing you could make it tight.

Hate when a project turns into a fuster cluck.

If you have all the balls that fell out you can re pack them by using tooth paste to hold them in. Once you have it back together you just rinse the paste out.

Clever... only knock against toothpaste is that most contain a mild abrasive (which is why toothpaste is sometimes good for polishing scratches out of CDs). What about something sticky but water-soluble like... honey?

I use it all the time to re pack bearings. You need to make sure that you get it all rinsed out. I called garhaure and that is what they told me to use

+1 I called garhauer and they sent me about a dozen little bearings to replace the ones that got lost. There are two types of bearings: black (or dark brown; and tan. Tell them what color you need and they may send you some replacements. Mine came through fine in a letter envelope.

To keep the bearings from getting loose I tear/cut two 6 x 6" pieces from the sides of a 12-pack container and slip one under the bearing to give it a surface to rest on. Pull each sheave assembly out with the cardboard under it to keep the bottom bearings in place. I put the second sheet on top of the bearing so I can turn it over and always have a flat surface against each sheave and bearing housing to keep the bearing together.

The new shaving gels hold them in well and washout as i did several hundred balls in a bunch of expensive double blocks

Thanks all!!! These are great tips to replace the bearings.

I called Garhauer and spoke with Guido...... he was getting ready to ship me the bearings then said, " instead of the bearings I will ship 4 new self contained sheives". This company is great!! Not only are their products top notch, the service is even better......
