Really like the new pushpit with bench idea. But how do you get to the dinghy? Great price for a great boat.

Does anyone else get suspicious when they do NOT show a picture of the engine?

I always do. If there is no engine picture(s) I loose interest right away.

Its a SAILBOAT! Who cares if it has an engine? A greasy, old diesel just gives you bargaining chips when you are negotiating the selling price :D.

Seriously though, how many marine surveyors have a rider about not testing the engine, doing sea trials, etc.? I always figure the engine is a crap-shoot when buying a used boat. I purchased one boat when I knew the diesel was dead and another when I knew nothing about the engine condition, except hearsay. They both turned out to be great boats...

Sorry guys what killed it for me are the mast steps, I just think they're ugly.

I noticed no chocks for leading lines aft, no pics of the windlass which would be interesting to see how it was installed, yea, mast steps... think about it... SS screws into aluminum, hmm, how long will that last? But, the real test is what the survey shows about the steering, blisters, shape of mast, etc. There's no way in hell I'd sell mine, but this is interesting looking at other 37Cs.

I'm actually shocked at the pricing of both of these 37c's. I've put a lot of $$$ into my 1983 over the last 3 years, and I wouldn't sell it for less than $45K cdn.

Balmar ARS-5 regulator and 60 series 100 amp alternator.

Funny how that is, I bought mine for 20K, it was worth 10K, I started refitting her nine years ago and started saving receipts because I knew I was going to spend a lot of money. Well, I didn't get them photocopied before the ink faded, but as of late, I would say that I have about 90K in ours. I wouldn't sell it for less than 120K knowing that I have what I do in it, and I did all the work so that doesn't include labor. I've also grown to learn that there a lots of little things that go from boat to boat that add up like dinghys, motors, handheld compasses, GPSs, VHF radios, etc. It was nice to be in a slip right next to a 200K+ Sabre 42, besides being new, they were pretty darn close in overall design and shape (aft cockpit, v-berth, aft berth on one side, etc.) The only thing I would consider is trading up to a 40'+ catamaran.

Mind you all I own is a humble 30 but have no delusions. Bought the boat for a little over $5k have sunk $16k in her but I don't I would get more than 10k and don't worry about it. If this was an economic proposition would have kept the cash in the bank. Even at today's interest rates it would have out preformed he boat. That being said a CD equal to the investment in Islander could not equal the piura pleasure I get in return for going to wind in this sail boat.

John investing in the boat n terms of pleasure far exceeds anything else. Could do with the money.
