Refinishing Plexiglass

I Want To Refinish The Plexiglass On My Hunter 29.5 Any One Done This Before ?
GE has a product out that is at the auto parts store to rehab the headlight covers, which will work, but is only enough for a window or two.
I went to Home Depot, bought a cheap drill [non battery] and two tubes of polishing compound, and polishing attachment.
You need a plug in powerdrill as it is light, and it's going to take a long time, save some funds for sunscreen and a six Pac.

I used the power polisher and polishing compound on the tail and headlights lenses of my Mustang. It worked quickly and easily.

James: It really depends on what the issue is with the acrylic. If it is checked, there will be no "bringing-it-back". If you just want to remove oxidation there is still hope. Even mild polishing compounds will work.

I have been a member of this site for one hour, however, I have owned and maintained aircraft for years. I would Google for 'micromesh.'

Here is a link from Aircraft Spruce & Specialty:

http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/Micromesh.php

This is from one of the premier online aircraft parts distributors. This is a machine application, the only way to go. I've used it on aircraft; follow the instructions exactly and it will give you great results. Don't flip out when you can't see through your window after the first sand. Have a good cordless drill with extra batteries. It makes a real mess.

Do NOT use the 3M headlight refinish kit, and do not accept any solution that promises a quick result. There is no quick result. It takes work and elbow grease with the right components.

Hope this helps.

From a retired dealer who dealt with this. Lexan can actually be sanded but course grade wet/dry sandpaper is not good. Use of 250 or higher when wet sanding is ok if scratches are deep. Then drop down to 300, 400 and then either 600/800 using wet/sandpaper with use of water. Then a good compound for example finese it by 3M will bring out the fine scratches. Worked everytime. If using a buffer, low speed only and go back and forth without letting the buffer sit too long as it will melst the lexan. Then if you want to wax, go ahead.
