A backstay adjuster is always a good idea, 'specially if you have a masthead rig. Garhauer makes a nice one.
I do have a Mast Head Rig. I have located a 4 part Garhaur Block & tackle which is considered a Boom Vang. The size of line on the block and tackle is 1/4" .
I purchased two Boom Bails and have straightened them out. I will attach them at each of my Split Backstay chain plates. I have purchased a CS Johnson 5 sheave backstay adjuster block assembly. I will be attaching the Fiddle/Jam/Becket of the tackle assembly to one of the Straightened bails and run a wire lanyard from the other fiddle block of the tackle to the wire. The wire will go through the equalizer sheave of the Johnson Block and then ran to the other Straightened Boom Bail. Attachments at the bails will be with 1/4" shackles. With this set up I have an even distribution of tension on the split backstay wires and also I don't have to drill any holes in the deck to attach anchor points.
The only question I have to work out is how to form the eyes with thimbles to the wire and swag the wire. The Stainless wire is 7X19 by 5/32" approximately 9 1/2 feet long. Any thoughts about how to proceed with the Swagging? Should I order it from a rigger shop? I don't want to try something and have an eye splice pull apart and shock all the rigging of the mast.
