What features do you like on other boats?

Maine Sail put out a thread on horrors, and I thought it would be interesting to go in a different way.

1. I like the arch that Hunter has where the traveler is mounted on the boom. Pretty practical and out of the way.
2. I like the molded in foot blocks that Catalina put on the 309, 315 and most of their boats to tame the jib sheets.
3. I like the aluminum toe rails that a lot of boats have so you can hook stuff to.

My boat doesn't have these features.

1. Cockpit floors that "bend up" at the outsides, so when heeled there actually is a horizontal section to stand on. Great feature of our boat.

2. Humped helmsman's seat, great for visuals from behind the wheel and comfortable when heeled.

3. Access to EVERYTHING. No panels to remove, easy to follow wiring and piping. We're in the process of replacing our exhaust hose from the muffler to the transom and can actually get to everything - all 17 feet of it!

stu-sounds like ye are describing my formosa-- we have bulwarks and all is easily accessed by pulling only a few floorboards or bench seats or what have ye for perusal and repairs.. i LOVE her,and have not found many things to covet on other boats--mebbe interior rough cabinetry in hold containing quadrant.....

And then there's the big heavy vinyl rub rails that the pre-(approximately) 2005 Hunters had. They could rub against anything, not be marked up, and not damage other boats. The newer ones have the SS insert which dents easily when hit.

All of the above sound great! I'd love to see some production boats with battery storage boxes designed from the get-go for standard 6-volt sized golf cart batteries with serious hold down provisions, ventilation, easy access, and drainage, and have the weight reasonably centered in the boat. Ideally, I'd like them to provide space for 4 golf carts and 1 Group 27 12-volt for engine starting. I'm sure some boats must do this, but I don't know which ones.

Headroom without losing performance!

Battery box, big enough for a group 27 in the cabin, instead of starboard quarter and only big enough for a group 24.

Rpwillia likes the "Rollover Bar" ..... while I can see the attributes, I think it looks like a head banger. Besides, l learned to utilze the traveller.

I like the tilt away feature of the Goiot wheel on my boat.
I Iike large diameter wheels that allow one to sit out toward the rail.
Retractible sprits are great if you fly an asymetric sail.
Step through transoms are great for getting aboard a dinghy.

I don't think I would ever want to go without the walk-thru transom. And I have become very accustom to the ss arch. I would like to see a "removable" hard time with wired in solar cells.

Got a couple I've seen on new Catalina's,
Hard Biminis (I may roll up the windscreen a couple times in summer, but never take it down and don't know why I would.
A dedicated place for a dinghy engine mount on the stern rail, it took this long to think of this?
I used to love the hump seat on my 270, perfect at any angle with good places for your feet when heeled.

Dang, I forgot to mention the retractable sprit. :Liar: I do like those on the boats I have seen at the shows.

I must be short enough that on a friends Hunter 33 my head was never close to the "Rollover Bar." To work mine I have to go forward of the wheel.

My list was a big sailboat, larger than my Mac 25. I did a search for the largest trailerable sailboat, and came up with only one option that I could afford, a Clipper Marine 32 Aft Cabin Ketch.

This gave me pretty much everything I wanted / needed. I would like Stern rail seating, but one can't have everything. May add that in the future, along with a swim platform.

Walk through transom, no cockpit scupers that drain below the waterline, a wheel that is big enough to sit on the side of the cockpit for a clear view forward, control lines lead back to the cockpit, led lighting, well insulated air cooled reefer and freezer, bimini with full enclosure and bug screens, dorals, bow and stern rail seats... and all the stuff mentioned above

I did get my traveler modified so both lines are on the port side. Now that I see Valcours mod I kind of like that too.
