If there is wood in there, it would have to be paper thin. Where those windows mount, it can't be more than 5/16" thick total, maybe not that..
Maybe we can get caguy to weigh in here; he used standoffs and screws in the same location for his install.
Frank, did you feel confident that the screws wouldn't poke thru the outside of the cabin?
I could always drill thru, and use a bolt with a finishing washer from the outside.

No doubt you will find some areas that are 5/16" thick in the liner of the old-style Catalina used lots of resin in places on that model. However around the windows it's more likely 1/8" But with hundreds having curtains installed and nearly all the same way with no problems I having a hard time understanding why the concern? There is a void between the liner and hull around the windows as nearly every other place between the liner and hull.
Several old boats have been cut up, even helped on one myself. All were photographed should you need to know how thick any places are...just yell.

That sounds like a good post (pictures of cut up sections of a hull), I've been wondering about thicknesses myself. When I've been below under the cock pit seats, I can see light coming through the hull (opaque sides) and appears thin, I was wondering if it was just my boat or all Catalina 22's but she floats well, so far, while sailing, I've only found one leak and that's the keel lock bolt and I've read that grease will resolve that, rest is rain water leaks sitting in the yard. I'm sure I'm not the only one on the board that's wondered about the thicknesses.

I know about the air space. You can feel it as the drill goes thru the liner. That's how I know to take my finger off the trigger.
What I think I'll do first, is remove the screws and grind off the pointy tip (not necessary with pilot holes). I can feel a very slight pimple on the outside where the screws are.

If memory serves that area between the liner and hull at the windows is near 1/4". Most fill it when they reseal the windows
I'll search the pictures I have to see if there is a shot of that area....

We used shock cord for the curtain rods with knots on the ends. I fabbed up six wood stand offs, 3 for each side with a 2 holes each in the top and bottom to run the cord through. I varnished and screwed them into the cabin sides. I think the were 7" x 1" 3/4" stock. I set them up so they where all the same distance and my spouse sewed up a set of 8 curtains, 2 for each window. I'll take pictures when I get a chance. Turned out nice.
There is about a 1/4 inch space between the liner and the shell. I know from when I rebedded the ports. That is on the C27. On my Mac the PO drilled right through and put used panhead screws. I was a pain holding slotted screws in place while putting on nuts on the inside. I finally 4200 them in place and let them dry before attaching spacers.

That's how the windows are on the Mac 25. If you use a through hole screw, drill the hole slightly undersize and run the screw in so that it is held in place while you run the nuts down from the inside. Unless you have a lovely patient wife. Mine is just lovely.
