I have a Magma kettle grill 10-007 original size combination type that calls for a 10-263 low heat regulator. My grill burns much too hot so I am wondering if I have the correct regulator. All of the Magma regulators look alike. The only way I can think to tell is the size of the oriface.

Does anyone know the size of the hole or can you measure it for me?

Thank you.

I am suspect of the above website. I needed a Magma part and googled the name and this, or something like it, came up. They were not actually Magma and they sucked big time. The company that actually manufactures the grills does not use this name as a contact.

Do a web search for orifice size for gas burners. They are sized by number drill size. you can solder the hole and drill new smaller orifice to reduce the heat. Have done it several times on various burners in my place.

Care to elaborate more? I don't see any problems with their site and certainly appear to be Magma Grills. And, I have odered from them in the past.

A number of years ago I ordered a part from a company that I thought was actually Magma, but found out that just because the site has magma in the name does not mean they are the manufacturer. I eventually called West marine and got the number for the actual manufacturer who was obviously not happy with the company I was dealing with, who would not send me my part or even respond to my emails. Eventually, Pay Pal came to bat and I got my part.

I cannot repember the exact name of the web site - only it had magma in its url. If you have dealt with this company already, you are probably ok. I do notice in a search there is more than on company using magma in their url.

Hi Jan11. Welcome to the site.
I was just on the Magma site and noticed that the different models are in direct reference to the type of propane canister they use. (see the replacement parts tab on the bottom of there home page.) Are you using a big tank on a grill designed for the small tank?

According to Defender:

For un-regulated, on-board LPG systems, and 1 lb disposable bottles. The bottom receives the 1 lb fuel bottles or a high pressure propane hose from an unregulated LPG cylinder.

Regulator fits Magma grill models: A10-207, A10-217, A10-007, A10-017, A10-005 AND A10-918.
Taking Ross's advice, the orifice should be .039", or a #61 drill for 10,700 BTU/hr. It should be easy to check the existing orifice with a 1 mm wire gauge.

I also called Magma to see if they have replacement orifices and they are sending me a new smaller orifice no charge. Nice people.

She said that I shouldn't use the regulator with the 10 pound ship's tank - rather the low pressure valve.

Defender's catalog says for the 10-263 regulator:

"For un-regulated, on-board LPG systems, and 1 lb disposable bottles.

Being a very young man I don't see how the regulator knows the source of the gas.

The low pressure regulator is for a regulated onboard tank. Straight from the 10lb. tank needs a regulator.

Also from Defender

all you need to connect Magma grill for lpg use with regulated lpg tanks.
Use of regulator in addition is highly recommended.
A10-230 cng control valve is used with a regulator and hose purchased separately.

I'm not so young that this escapes me. But why does she tell me that the regulator cares if it is being fed by a small bottle or a larger tank?

Because of the pressure difference.

And Magmas have always been known to run hot, once ya get 'em started.
