Does anyone know of a good source for replacement hinge pins for a 1976 oday 25? Also, if anyone knows the size specs that would be helpful. Ive looked online without success. Thanks in advance!

It depends on the make of the hinge. I've seen at least one O'Day boat with two different diameter pins. If you have a Dwyer hinge tabernacle similar to the one on my boat, you could get away with two 3/8"X 5" stainless steel bolts which are threaded about 1" from the end, w/ two lock nuts. I keep two bolts in my ditty bag just in case I ever lose a Tabernacle pin. I've never had to use them, but they're there just in case.
Getting back to the pin size; If your upper hinge plate that is attached to your mast measures 4" wide X 6.5" long, your tabernacle pins should be 4-3/4" long X 3/8" thick if it's a Dwyer hinge.
I always thought my hinge was a Kenyon for years until I saw the small inscription a month ago on the hinge. I think my utility plate was made by Kenyon and I must have been confused when the guy at Rig-Rite sold it to me but that's neither here nor there.
At any rate, if your hinge is a Dwyer with two pins of the same diameter, chances are that your pin sizes are similar to mine and I'm pretty sure that Rudy would have them. http://www.drmarine.com/ Don't bother to email him. I couldn't find my pins when I stepped my mast two years ago so I went to the hardware store and bought two stainless 3/8 bolts. Worked fine except the ends weren't tapered and it was a little harder to start them in the holes. Get the pins if you want to but use bolts if you have to. I knew I would find my pins later.

I did the same thing years ago Rich. I couldn't find my pins and I looked high and low for them. I went out and bought the bolts,--and then the pins showed up. Like a friggen dumbbell I had put the pins on the upper part of the hinge on the mast and I've never done that before. I've always put the pins on the cabin top hinge. Why I did that, I have no idea.
Actually, if a guy wanted to save some bucks on pins he could buy the 3/8" stainless steel bolts, drill a small hole through each of them for the cotter pins or cotter rings, and taper each bolt on a grinding wheel. Voilà! mast pins!

Thanks for the replies! The previous owner used one pin and bolts with wing nuts. I looked on the d&r site and i think i found exactly what i need! Ill order a pin, and use the bolts as my contingency. This is my first full year with my own boat and all the little things i need to do (aside from the big things) are keeping me busy. As an aside, thanks to everyone who always mentions using starboard for little project. Yesterday i was able to install my replacement compass that was just a little smaller than the previous using some starboard to span the gap.
I put my pins back in the plate when I take my mast down. That way I don't have to remember where they are.
I bagged and tagged every bolt/pin i removed at the end of last season, but the po only gave me one pin when i bought the boat. So far the system has worked well, but we'll see when the boat is finally back in the water.
I usually put my pins back on the cabin tabernacle too, but for some reason I got side tracked and put them where I normally wouldn't put them and forgot about it. Then I went wacky for over a week trying to find them.
Starboard is getting very popular on boats today. My friend used it to build his hatch boards, a caddy on his lower inside transom, enclosures for gauges that swing out on hinges at his companionway, and a removable compass mount on top of his sliding hatch. He also made handrails out of Starboard.
There's another material out there called "PVC Foam Board" which can be bought at Lowe's and Home Depot. They have other names for this material, but it is a great substitute for plywood. It's strong, light, and it can be glued with PVC cement and painted with Crylon paints. I favor this material for most marine applications and Trex for others.

Also, try www.massmarineparts.com in Quincy Mass. They are a subsidiary of Continental Marine , father runs the boatyard, son Jon runs the part business. He is a boat breaker. Got $1200 of stuff from him last year for $200. You can tour his yard and pick out what you need, and he has it in hundreds of pounds. If you go there, you should also bop down to D&R in Fall River.
