What transmission do I most likely have?

I just bought a 1984 Hunter 27 sailboat with a Westerbeke 10 Two Diesel engine. I cant find a stamp or model number for the tranny. I do know that it takes ATF fluid if that helps. Any one have any idea which tranny most likely came with these motors? I won't hold you to it, but it might help me narrow it down.

Most likely a Hurth.

Hurths take either Dexron or the other brand (Ford?), but never mix them. ATF is either of those two as compared to "engine oil" which other types of transmissions use.

If you know what it looks like (like, looking in your engine compartment), then go to www.marinedieseldirect.com and look around to see if it matches.

Forget if Hurth has a website under its name, since someone else bought out Hurth, but you could try.

Unless the engine was repowered, try looking for user groups for your boat.

That's what I'd do if it was my boat.

I think the transmission is a Westerbeke 2:1 BW3. However, I can not find which type of fluid it uses???

I think it is a 2:1 WB3 but have no idea what fluid it uses????

Have you considered removing (some or all of) what's there and finding out what's inside?

Changed fluid today and replaced with ATF fluid, thanks!
