Cal 1-27 backyard
I need to replace the sliding hatch that is used to enter my Cal 27 from the back of the boat. I do not know what this piece is called. Can anyone help me by telling me what it is called, as well as places to purchase a new one. I am also pretty handy, so I could build a new one if anyone has any suggestions as to how to do that.

Thanks a lot

This indicates you are talking about the top piece of the cabin, which slides in two rails bolted to the cabin top. You are correct; that is called the sliding hatch. You'd have to be pretty handy at molding fiberglass parts, or have extensive cabinetmaking experience to build one of those. Best bet would be to try and find a derelict Cal 27 that someone is going to chop up for scrap, and see about buying the sliding hatch.

If you're talking about the vertical boards that form the "door" to the cabin, the above posts are correct. Those are some of the names for that part.

Can also be known as "crib boards".

Unless you want to do the 3 piece shiplaped ones, like Catalinas have, they are pretty simple to make. Like Dale said, one-piece lexan, or maybe marine plywood, or Starboard. You can get real fancy and make two-piece hinged doors with windows, too.

Good luck with your project.
