Just thought I would say hello to all the h36 and others out there.Im #hun36109m82b up in Vancouver Island.Just north of the San Jauns in Cowichan Bay. Just bought her and we are very pleased. In really good shape! I dont think they sailed her much. Has a new yanmar but old sails that have more sun damage than wear .These boats seem very solid with a good bottom(4 blisters).Like the lay out,8 for dinner and 2 to bed.Ill be going over all your past info, well skim over some of it anyhow. New to the hunter line of boats but looking forward to getting to know them inside and out. This looks like the place to be for the diy person ! Merry Xmas

Merry Christmas to all ! Trinity is hull # 30 Hun36030M80F She has been a pleasure to sail. Owned since 2003. Always projects underway. But a solid boat and I am always confident in her to perform in sea conditions. I sail off the Atlantic City, NJ coast.
Enjoy your 36.

Hello Ed.the Engine Is A Yanmar 3gm30f.its Got 435 Hrs On Her And She Runs Like A Clock. One Of The Reasons I Bought Her. I Think I Got A Good Deal, but As Always You Find Lots Of Little Things To Repair. I Had Read Abought The Steel Mast Step In The Bilge. I Checked Mine And It Looked Ok,but Of Course On Closer Inspection And The Rose Colored Glases I Was Wearing Came Off My Maststep Will Need Attention Soon! I Like The Idea Of Filling It Full Of Epoxy And Outside Cap Of S/s Pipe(im A S/s Fabricator By Trade 28years). Hope To Fab New S/s Pulpit And Pushpit, the Ones On My Boat Are Not To Pretty! Hope To Find A Few Other Ideas On This Site To Keep Me Tinkering Away On My New Boat. Will Be Changing Her Name Also, Sosueme Too Is Just A Little To Cocky For Me. More Like Please Dont Sue Me! Any How Look Forward To Any Sugestions And Problems I Should Be Aware Of. Good Winds.

Mike, have fun with the boat -- both the "tinkering" kind and the actual sailing of it.

I didn't know much about cruising type boats when I bought my 1980 36 (Hull #36) 4.5 years ago. But on first look, I just sensed that the overall construction was done well, and with care the boat would last many more years without any major problems. Also the interior layout just seemed to feel right ... good feng shui. So far my "sense" has been proven right. (Not always so with other things.) Being on other newer boats of the 36 -40 range over the years, I have no urge whatsoever to sell my Cherubini Hunter 36 for something else. Works fine for the pocket book too! The boat was a good choice.

How exactly are your pulpits not too pretty anymore? I shouldn't be asking because as a SS fabricator you know a lot more than me about what to do. But if the tubing hasn't actually been bent around due to encounters with various objects, and instead is ugly because of pitting and rust stains, you might first try "Spotless Stainless". Here is a link to Maine Sail's review. (Post #5 in the thread.)

And I've attached before/after pics of a section of my stern ss rails that was long covered by a PO's second VHF antenna clamp. When I removed it, I found significant crevice corrosion underneath. I could never clean it well until the Spotless Stainless experiment. The "after" pic was taken just a few days after the application. Its now been about six months and the area still looks pretty the much better same. So the claim that the citric acid base also helps passivate the surface seems founded. The product also did a great job for me to completely remove stains from weld crevices and other impossible to rub/buff spots.

Hello Rardi. Hey Thanks For The Info On The S/s Polish. The Stuff Looks Like It Works Miricles. I Have The Same Rust Stains On My Pulpit/pushpit.i Also Have A Few Cleaners Like This .the Only Reason I Will Replace Them Is Because I Can Do The Job Myself ,can Improve What Is There(rear Seats Built Into The Railing)(self Deploy/recover Dual Ancor). Built A Few Sets Of Davits But Its Still Easier To Drag A Soft Bottom Up On Deck. And As Long As You Got Decent Weather And Not Going Great Distances I Just Tow The Dingy. By The Way Love The Sanfran Area.passed Thru Twice As Ayoung Man(21)met And Hung Out With One Of The Painting Crews From The Golden Gate Bridge. Told My Buddy And I Where And What To See In The Area. Wished I Was Into Sailing Back Then! Sure Was Windy. Must Go,the Turkey Has Hit The Table. Good Wind Mike

H36 on the Chesapeake Bay. My folks purchased her in 1984 (1982 model). They kept her on the bay for about 9 years then took her to Florida for retirement and many Bahamas cruises....they decided to let her go as they were sailing less and less and I didn't hesitate since the older brother wanted nothing to do with it...so now she's back on the Chesapeake.

Nice picture. Wow, almost 30 years in the family. The photo distance is too far for detail, but it appears your folks and you appear to have kept her very well maintained. You must know every square inch and every system inside out.

Curious about what engine Hunter installed in the Cherubini 36 later models ... if they went to the GM series? My 1980 is a 2QM20. Still running very well.

Thanks - she's in pretty good shape for a three-decade old boat. The folks took really good care of her over the years. If I recall correctly it was a 3GM motor. However, we replaced it about 5 years ago with a 4 cyl Kubota - barely fits in but so far we like it. Nice and smooth with great power response. We used the marine package from Phasor Marine.
