Hi - I'm new to sailboats and to this forum so please forgive me if I'm asking the wrong question in the wrong place. We have a wooden Schooner, named Marie Cornelie, that was built in Germany in 1957. It sank during two hurricanes (Katrina & Ike) and was badly damaged. We're restoring it & were told that that it graced the cover of Sailing Magazine in April, 1971. Sailing Magazine confirmed that it is on the cover, but they don't have that issue for sale. I can buy a copy of the cover photo, which I plan to do, but I'm trying to find out if there was anything written about it in the magazine. We're trying to find out as much history as we can. The owner who had it following Katrina made quite a few changes and we'd like to restore it to what it was in 1957. If anyone knows of a place that sells vintage magazines that might have a copy, please let me know.

WOW. Welcome fellow restoration purist. There is a great deal of knowledge on this site and folks who are willing to share. I hope you will keep us informed of your progress.

And somewhere there is a wooden sailboat group. Since I did not go that way, I have lost the reference...

That's funny! When we tell friends it sank twice, they don't get too enthused about going sailing when we finallly get it to that point. One of them showed up at the marina in a life vest when he came to see if for the 1st time, just in case... At the rate we're going, they won't want to sail with us because we'll be 112 years old. It was in a marina during both hurricanes. It sank in LA the 1st time & Galveston the 2nd. The pilings next to it came loose & it slammed down on top of them until the pilings broke through. Believe it or not, it might be a blessing that it sank when it did. We've found quite a few things that would have led to big issues in the future. We never would have known about them if we didn't have to disassemble so much of it when we did. It's been great fun so far. We wanted a project & we got one. Thanks so much for the link! I guess that's why they don't make submarines out of wood. They're the only boats I'm aware of that are actually supposed to sink.
Sailing usually has a quick quip about their cover photo inside the magazine (boat name, owner, hailing port, and perhaps when it was taken) but not much more. Not worth $99 CDN, since you can already see the photo posted above. The Contents certainly don't mention any custom built German schooners. Woodenboat.com is probably your best bet, unless you speak Deutsch & can post questions on a German website similar to it.
