Lyman-Morse Building Round-the-World Sailboat

Adventurer Stanley Paris today [February 22] showed off the progress on Kiwi Spirit, the vessel in which he hopes to break the record set by Maine sailor Dodge Morgan for a solo nonstop sail around the globe.

Paris, founder of St. Augustine University in Florida, is having the 63’ sailboat made at Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding [in Maine].

For those not familiar with Lyman Morse they are perhaps one of the finest builders of custom power and sailboats in the world. If you think Hinckley & Morris are top notch, which they certainly are, you've not been on a Lyman Morse built boat.......

Last year I stopped in to Tenants Harbor, the location on one of the LM yards. The harbor as always was packed full but an older gentleman from LM morse came out in a skiff and showed me to one of their 'special' moorings, and then gave us a brief tour of their yard.

What eye candy and supreme craftsmanship by LM. Most certainly would make any Hinckley or Morris blush with envy.
Those yards over in Belfast are not far behind, either; where we saw a brand new cold molded 45er that was finished 'bright'; and, a most exquisitely restored 1933 Pfeiff which took several months of arduous fairing and sanding of the topsides --- absolute perfection to 'light wavelength' flatness.
