Who among the O'35 owners do not run (or for that matter do run) an electric fuel pump. Ours is just outside the fuel tank, and prior to all filters etc. It makes it nice for priming purposes, but is it really necessary to keep the Universal M-25 operating. I wonder if ours was added by the P.O. and if it is really necessary. Before I remove it, I am looking for any input.

is this a second pump if not it is necessary to keep your engine running because there is no mechanical lift pump on the engine, I added an electric pump for bleeding, polishing and for a backup to the mechanical lift pump on my Westerbeke....I've assisted a friend with his M25 on a Catalina and I remember that electric pump is needed to keep the engine running can you follow the fuel hoses and see if there's another pump?

Depends on where your fuel tank is located. Many M25s had fuel tanks below the engine, hence "lift" pump. The pump should be after the primary filter.

Why? 'Cuz the filter in the pump can clog, big time. Why bother? Use the primary. Maine Sail just did a writeup of just that issue.

You would do well to read the rest of that topic, which covers a lot of M25 engine issues.

RAD's points are also well taken. Bleeding is a LOT easier with the electric pump.

It is the only pump in line. So from what I can tell, after 1986, all M-25's had electric pumps vice mechanical. So that answers that question, but I guess I should move it to the other side of the filter to make sure it is suction through the filter vice pressure.

Dan, and when you do, check the filter in the pump. It's not so much because it's the ONLY pump, it's where your tank is located. Some boat have tanks above the engine and a siphon will work for the fuel, while others have tanks built into the bilge so a pump is REQUIRED.

I actually already had to replace the pump because the filter in the old facett pump was completely clogged, and it has impinged on the whole mechanism. So putting it after the filter would be helpful. My tank is actually above the engine though, so I could probably run it without the pump, but the ease of starting with the new pump and racor turbine filter is awesome.

If anyone is going to replace their facett pump you can send me your old one for a spare. And yes you need to put the filter between the tank and pump.
