just my 2 cents. We have PEX in all the water lines in our boat and I'm a believer. It also seem resistant to the same bacterial smell soft vinyl water lines tend to absorb. I wouldn't hesitate a second to put Pex into any project boat. On our Bavaria they use whale fittings on the pex - I didn't realize they sell those at Home Depot (per Steve's post above). I've been looking to purchase a bunch of spare parts to keep on-board so I can attend to any future issues when they arise.

On a Bavaria you'll very likely have metric fittings, so be sure to get the right ones.

I have a 20 year old whale system and there is no smell or anything. I have been moving things around and i take it apart and put it together like legos and have yet to have a leak.

Do be careful, the 15mm is not the same as half inch! There is also 22mm in my system.

I have replumbed my prior boat twice in 20 years, this stuff is still going strong!

I have made many changes, mods and additions to the plumbing on my 2007 Hunter 45CC. The boat was plumbed with 15mm poly (pex ) red and blue pipe and quick connect fittings. The only serious issue was when I mistakenly used 1/2 inch fittings on 15mm pipe. I have disconnected and reconnected ( the great advantage to this system) fittings many times without problems. If reasonable care to cut the pipe square and not to score it to severly is taken and the pipe is pushed completely into the fitting, no leaks should occur. P.S. One great dificency on many boats is the lack of shut off valves (because of cost) at the user end of each run of pipe, even if they exist at the manifold. In an emergency they can save time and damage.
