First you gotta get there, and then you gotta pull out your camera!

Pictures from the chair at the top of the mast. Who's got them? Here is two to start us off. Beneteau First 260 and then the 36.7.

What's the horizontal wheel on the top of the cabin for?
Kermit,

Very observant!!

Well, I have a number of low bridges in my area and so I made my mast retractable. The wheel is to raise and lower it. ;)

Hmm, I sense that you are skeptical.

OK, I hesitate to admit this, but I run aground at alarming frequency. :redface: The wheel connects to a huge cable :eek: that lets me retract my keel when I find that it's length is too much for the current depth.

Still not buying it?

OK, it's early Spring, and the wheel was removed and stored on top of the cabin to provide more room to walk around in the cockpit.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :D

Rich,

After posting the question I sorta figured out that it's the wheel wheel. But I'm not too upset that I posted the question. I loved your answers! (And you sorta had me going on the keel thing.)

I only needed to get up to the Anchor light under my own power , no need to go higher.
:eek:

If you went any higher than the anchor light, you would be out of mast!!! Hoping you were referring to the steaming light at about mid-mast :doh:

Cheers,
Brad

@MrUnix,

You're correct, I should have said Deck light/Steaming Light. I change the anchor light when the mast is down:D, Much easier.
