Peggie have been following your forum as I begin to think seriously about an overhaul of the head. Having tackled various replacable parts on my very vintage Raritan Compact I I know its a hard unit to get a part.

I previous threads I have read about the LBA, do you or anyone know how hard it will be to get the bowl off the existing unit. I assume its been on there a very long time and with no one having had a reason to tackle unbolting it till now.

Second we will be doing a circle of Delmarva, it appears my y valve is either deliberately locked or simply frozen in any case as well as all of the hoses plan to replace it. Are there different size valves or is this a one size fits all type piece.

Last since we do do much of our sailing in the Chesapeake and our existing tank is flea sized does anyone have any idea how big a tank can be fitted. Eyeballing the current tank, I would doubt it holds more than 10 gallons and perhaps considerable less.

Hi, I just brought this h30 last summer and still trying to figure out all the parts. Here are some of the pictures from my head which looks like a new tank was put up front with new pluming. Boat is a lake boat so I think the PO took out the macerator and hoses to the thru hull. I have a hard time thinking this is where hunter put the original tank.

It shouldn't be too hard to remove the bowl from the base...a bunch of people have opted for the PHII or PHC LBA and no one has complained about having any problems salvaging their bowl. As the y-valve, they're all 1..5" go with a Whale if you want the best. Trident 101 sanitation hoses.

As for a new tank, you should be able to find one in the 18-20 gallon range in the Ronco Plastics catalog...that's your best source: Ronco Plastics Marine Catalog

Denton, your tank is in an excellent location, but whoever installed it really made a mess of it! The plumbing is a nightmare--a mishmash of schedule 40 hard pvc and something else that looks like water hose---it's definitely not sanitation hose...a few pieces of it seem to be left over just left there, not connected to anything...and more unions and clamped pieces than a jigsaw puzzle...some double clamped, some not... I'm hoping that the corrugated hose running through one of your photos isn't part of the sanitation system. You'd be smart to re-do it before spring launch.

Thank you for pushing me over the fence. the tank is just sitting on one of its edges what a mess I am thinking about adding a unit with push buttons as the grand babies are not so good with the hand pump.

Cheers from Lake Grapevine Texas

i know this is going to come out to strong..... so plz dont take offence....

from looking at your pics you need to talk to Peggy about what you have as it looks like a complet hose job is needed ...none of the hoses i see in your pics are close to what it takes to make a sound system.....i know based on you just getting the boat that you did not do this application but it is in need of replaceing.....

Thanks all. Denton, a little hard to be sure but it appears the tank is under the center of the v berth. Realizing that the plumbing isn't idea, where did/would the vent line run. On my boat I would have to either go out through the chain locker not a good idea for a variety of reasons or snake through to the adjoining compartment on starboard or port. Either way it's going to be far from a straight line. Any thoughts Peggy?

I've been around the Delmarva 5 times, yet I've never bothered to pump-out while in the ocean. There is a good pump-out station in Cape Charles, where we always stop for fuel. While the only ocean-side pump-out is OC, there is no need. Generally we do the whole trip without pumping.

The valve, in part, seize from non-use. You should exercise (move a few times) all valves several times each year, if you want them to work when you needed them.

I'm not saying you don't want to fix this. But I'm telling you that it has no value to you, as a Bay sailor. Additionally, it needs to be locked in the off position with a cable tie; the MD police did check mine once. It was secured with 2 ties and that was accepted.

The vent line is the rib flex line in with the tank in the fwd v locker that was mated to a sch40 line and with back to the original vent on the mid starbrd side of the boat

Thanks Thinwater we find with 4 aboard two men two women we fill the tank in about a day and a half. In theory if we pump at Cape May even if we don't stop and pump at OC we could be ok but it's cutting it close so it would be nice to have the option.

Denton thanks need the storage but would nice with all aboard to anchor out two days running and the current tank doesn't work for us.

MORE nightmare plumbing! If I were you, I'd pull EVERYTHING out except MAYBE the toilet...every inch of hose and pipe and anything else that got left lying around that either seems to be a part of the system or you don't have a clue what it is. Then send me an email and we'll discuss how to do it right.

MLampner, if the tank is going into the bow (which is the ideal location for it), the vent needs to come off the bow end of the tank and go forward in a short, straight, and horizontal line as possible.

However, the tank really needs to be within 6' of the toilet, 'cuz that's as far as bowl contents will move in the amount of time anyone is gonna spend flushing a toilet...much further leaves waste sitting the head discharge line to permeate it. So you may want to email me too, before selecting a tank.

And btw...learning to use the dry mode to do more than just push the last of the water out of the bowl can double the number of flushes a tank can hold. So you may not need a tank that's much bigger than the one you have, just stop filling it up with flush water. You'll find quite a bit of discussion about this in the HM mistress forum over the years.
