Friend has a Beneteau 49 and he lost a waste cap from the deck. It is made by Amoit and he is having trouble finding a new one. Is there any source out there he can look? The dealer is saying he can't find one and RigRite used to carry them, but do not anymore.

And when he gets his new one, suggest to him that he remove the silly little chain link thingie, and when he removes the cap he should pace it on his deck or in the cockpit. Soooo maaaany people have lost their caps (not the headgear!:)) because of those chains, it's almost one of the first things I learned when we bought a boat with a deck fill anything.

Maybe try Riverside Marina (G. Winters) in NJ or Annapolis Yacht Sales. They may have just the plug. It is probably a common part for the 40, 43, 46, & 49.

Actually, the Amoit fleck fitting on my Beneteau had a chain. I had to clip the retaining chain to allow the threaded pumpout fitting to be used.

They can't find him the cap. From some other forums it is not uncommon to lose the cap. Apparently these also use a special wrench to open.

Um - that special wrench is - I believe - a winch handle. This is the same cap as a friends Beneteau and the winch handle fits it perfectly.

And if you don't have a chain attached to your winch handle and happen to loose it overboard, you can also use a spanner wrench to open the cap. :D

So you had to unclip the chain after you opened the fitting to allow the hose to fit?

As former mobile pumpout service owner, I can tell you I only wish this was the case.

The chains don't unclip. They are screwed to the cap and interior of the deck fitting. When we came across these in my business, we would unscrew or actually break the chain, letting the loose end hang down inside the fitting. Because, yes, the chain interferes with pumpout hose nozzle.

Wow. I've owned 4 Beneteaus, and none had a chain.

This is what you get for your $45 USD + shipping - the cap AND the thru-deck. Beneteau also sells a short little spanner (wrench) to unscrew the cap, one end fits the waste and water, the other end fits the fuel cap. I have had to replace two of these caps because an inexperienced hand decided to use the full leverage potential of a winch handle to permanently attach the cap to the thru hull.

Buy the cap spanner and save yourself the heart burn. It is 1/4 the cost of a winch handle :)

No personal experience ...

Yeah, it's called a "winch handle." :D
since I prefer boats designed and made by Americans. :snooty:But on some forums I saw they used a special wrench as a winch handle did not fit. Apparently there are a couple of sizes. But hey, if you like the French designs,:puke: it is your money. :D

Hey Ray;
The Beneteau49 is built in South Carolina. You know, by Americans, in the USA. Why are you displaying the flag of an international terrorist?
