- - Somerset,
I have just purchased a 1987 272. The mast has been replaced but never rigged and the seller has no real information on it. Is there anyone in RI or MA with a 272 with the mast down whom I could take measurements from to make sure the new extrusion, stays and shrouds are the correct lenght?
Thanks
TEd

My Mast on my 272 was made by Z-Spar. Maybe they can help you or maybe D&R Marine can help.

One of my friends who is originally from Taunton owns an 86 O'Day 272, not the LE though. I helped him sail it up from Marion to his mooring at the mouth of the Kicky in Mount Hope Bay several years ago. I tried emailing him and haven't received an answer as of yet. He's living in Tiverton and now has a mooring in the basin somewhere near the Tiverton YC.
You may just have to try and set the mast yourself. I kinow that it's not an easy task on this boat but not impossible with the right equipment.
Where are you planning on mooring your boat, on the Taunton River? I belong to a YC just down the road in North Dighton and we're always looking for new members.

Hi Ted - I have a 272 LE on Cape Cod. I will not be back until May, but you are welcome to check it out. The boat is on my driveway in Brewster. You can email me at sgjaffess@gmail.com. You will love the boat. I have had a lot of sailboats, but this is my favorite. Steve

Thanks for the info. I have replasced masts before. I like to have an example of the right mast and rig to measure so that I can duplicate it exactly. I have a mooring on the Taunton River just north of the new Veterans Memorial bridge. Now if they would just keep the Brightman St Bridge open it would make all us sailers' life a whole lot easier.

Hi Ted!
Hopefully they will at least leave the leafs of the old Brightman Street Bridge open by spring time of next year. I'm not getting any younger and I'm tired of waiting.
Good luck with the O'Day 272. Maybe I'll see you out on the river or the bays next year. You can't miss my boat. I have the name "Trinkka" on both sides of the boat and I tow a small green kayak.
Good Luck!
Joe

Ted, where is your boat now? You could take a ride over to D&R Marine in Assonet some Saturday morning (14 Water St., exit 9 off Rt 24 if heading North, Exit 10 if heading South) and Rudy will have all the dimensions that you need. You might even get him to come to the boat on a Saturday afternoon to verify the rigging is correct...... maybe / maybe not, but he is pretty helpful to many of us O'DAY skippers!
